I woke up last night after being a sleep for about 2 hours. I felt fine all night long and felt fine when I woke up. I got up took a pee and laid back down.

After I was back in bed all the sudden my left arm from sholder to my elbow went straight and stiff as a board. Then I had a shooting pain like the bones in my arm snapped which I know the pain as I have broken my arm before. I could not move it no matter how hard I tried I could not even wiggle my fingers. It lasted for 10 mins. The pain went away but my arm was numb not like needles numb but like my wife slapping the shit out of it and I could not feel a thing.

The ER was stumped the internet is stumped you have an idea?

ER docs don't know jack shit about hardly anything unless it's going to kill you in the next 10-15 minutes. They do an EKG maybe order a set of cardiac enzymes and a consult if it looks like they can't get away with letting you loose. Having said that if anyone ever has chest pain or other symptoms suggestive of a heart attack you should go to the ER. They will decide if it is an emergency and in the E in ER. Otherwise, you need to see a neurologist if it's not cardiac. Doesn't sound cardiac to me.
You can read through this and see if you think it is cardiac:
http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic31.htm . At your age I wouldn't put it too high up on the differential unless you had a family history or abused cocaine or are an IV drug user. If so you should see a cardiologist.

What's this about you getting up to go to the bathroom at night? Does this happen very often? Do you ever wake up short of breath? Do you have to sleep propped up with pillows, Do you have any swelling around your ankles when you take your socks off?

Schmed has a swelling whenever Harlan takes his socks off. Should he see a Doctor too?

Also it's possible you may have had a partial or focal seizure of the jacksonian type. Neurologist is probably who you need to see.

Alot of alcoholics sleep on their arms in the wrong way and cut off the circulation causing loss of function and sensation which returns slowly as the nerve grows back into the arm at 1 mm per day. Of course cutting off the blood supply for shorter periods of time might mimic what you said you experienced but this doesn't sound like what you had as you say you had function of the arm when going to the bathroom.

Well I don't drink, And yes I have woke up short of breath many times. I also hardly sleep at night anyway maybe 4 or 5 hours tops.

I got Insomnia pretty bad and I have every sleeping pill and sleep test knowen to man and they can not cure it.

My ankles are not swelled, But my feet themselfs are the coldest part of my body most of the time even if I wear 2 pairs of socks. As far as the pissing goes not that often I think i had a Dr. Pepper before i went to bed.

They did hook up all the stuff to me at the ER and took a Chest X-ray and everything is right as rain with the old ticker.

Also I was sleeping on my back that night because the Snore Ear plugs I had in kind of hurt when I was on my side so I slept on my back. I use one pillow when I sleep because if I prop myself up I get a nasty neck ache every morning.

Also I suffer from Migraines and headaches in general. Been to the nero and he has not found anything wrong either.

An EKG and chest x ray can't detect all cardiac problems. An EKG is good at picking up changes consistent with reduced blood supply to the heart. Also if your heart is very enlarged it can detect that which often happens in heart failure. The reason I asked if your feet are ankles were swelling up is that it can be a sign of right sided heart failure other things can cause this as well. The reason I asked if you had frequent urination at night is because in people with poor cardiac function the heart doesn't provide that much blood to the kidney while they are up and about but when they lie down the kidney receives more blood and they urinate alot to get rid of the excess fluid (simplified explantation). The reason I asked if you wake up short of breath is becasue people with poor cardiac function often collect fluid in the lungs when they lay flat ant the blood pools in the lungs. When they stand up the blood goes out toward the periphery and they can breathe better. Its' called orthopnea. Waking up in the middle of the night short of breath is called paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea. Having said all this waking up short of breath could be just from a nightmare or something or maybe you are a hypochindriac. An echocardiogram can estimate the ejection fraction or how much blood your heart is pumping out and whether any of your heart valves are leaking or letting blood flow by when they are supposed to be closed or impeding blood flow when they are supposed to be open. If you had a really bad heart valve alot of times they will catch it just by listenting to your heart with a stethescope but not always. Of course cardiologist are the best for listening for these things because they listen to hearts and do heart related procedures every day.

I am really just throwing out alot of this cardiac stuff because it's kind of interesting and good to know rather than it really applying to what you are talking about now. I do remeber you saying a while back you thought there might be something wrong with your heart.
