there are many reasons why I will not donate to the red cross, and the article above is just one of them. I will volunteer my time with them, but they can't have my money. Now our town had four trucks sent to the region affected by the one-two punch of katrina-rita, and I got some stuff that was on the list of stuff they wanted and gave it..so I know what I got, and I know where it went, and we got some nice letters back that were sent to the county organizers and published in our weekly paper.

If I was to donate cash, although I am not a Christian, the Salvation Army does far better work than the red cross does, and are right on the spot. Their people are better trained, and they have more experience in that they are already at work in many communities. Giving to local chapters of the United Way in affected regions would be a good thing too, or regions that have taken in a lot of evacuees.

I haven't given cash yet, and haven't been able to volunteer in about three weeks, but that should change next week hopefully. They still need people at the red cross..most of it is helping people fill out forms or get them rides to where they need to go and stuff like that, as most people have been places in my area..although there are still a few who haven't, but that is mostly because they are large extended families who can't bear to be separated.
