It's been on the news for a few days now; apparently a justice of the peace from the Tangipahoa Parish in the southeastern part of the state has refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple. His refusal has prompted calls for an investigation or resignation from civil and constitutional rights groups and the state’s Legislative Black Caucus. Keith Bardwell (the justice of the peace), has said he always asks if a couple is interracial and, if they are, refers them to another justice of the peace. Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal said in a statement a nine-member commission that reviews lawyers and judges in the state should investigate. Now I don't know about you guys, but this is a perfect exemple of the underlying bigotry that exists in this country. There has been a lot of progress since the segregation and slavery, and this is the kind of racism that gives a bad name to the entire country. To be fair I will quote his statement against the accusations of racism:" Bardwell said no one had complained in the past and he doesn’t marry the couples because he’s worried about their children’s futures. Bardwell maintains he can recuse himself from marrying people."
Kinda sucks that they couldnt have begun to elimintate segregation like it was suppossed to happen during the Reconstruction. Things would have been so much different by now.
Yeah and it is pretty easy to get a marriage license as well as the fact that everyone in the area know that they would not get one from that judge if they were interracial so why did they go there? Hmmm. Me wondering about that.
Well I think it has something to do with where you live. If they want to marry within that Parish there is not much they can do. But the debate lies in the point that a justice of the peace cannot legally turn anyone down, especially on the grounds of skin color. He said that he fears for kids' future but it's a thinly veiled excuse for being a racist, you know trying to act all rigtheous about it. But you seem to have taken his side, I could be wrong but do you believe he was right?
No I think the judge is a racist. Like Obama's mentor preacher Wright is the same. I think everyone knew this. I think this is bogus propaganda disguised as news. I think the interracial couple went to the judge so that they would get turned down and turned on at the same time.
I don't know, perhaps it was an orchestrated bit. But you have to admit it was pretty efficient. I just found out that they released the the judge's voting card and guess what? He's republican. This is what I like about politics, the public almost always reward the vilest one of them all. In the south, during the race to leadership between Bush jr and McCain in 2000, I believe; a new tactic emerged called "push polling". Very simple, a person will call you at home saying she represents the independent polling blahblah, now they ask you a question, in McCain's case it was:"if you were to find out that rep McCain had an extramarital affair and fathered an illegitimate colored skin baby, would your support increase or decrease?". Now that's politics! Because it is formulated as a question and disguised as a poll, McCain couldn't do shit to stop it. It sowed doubt in people's mind, and when McCain had a debate against Bush, he was forced to answer questions about "the affair" rather than discuss his platform. Bush jr went on to win the leadership race and the rest is history. You only have one guy to thank for this stroke of genius: Karl Rove. So you see low-blows are always exchanged even within a party. You might be right to say that they knew, but one thing is for sure; the republicans are gonna have a tough time in that parish. God bless America
Exactly my point Republicans are held to a higher standard and the bad apples exposed. This never happens with Democrats. And the reason is certainly not that there are no bad apples with them the whole barrel is rotten. If you want you politicians held accountable then do not elect a Democrat with them there is zero accountability. And BTW who is "they" that released the voting record? What is he voting record? I'd like to see it.
"they" would have to be the media. you could probably find it on the washington post website or whatever newspaper they run down there... I mostly agree with you except for a couple things. I think that republicans are held to higher standards because they portray themselves to be the higher ground of morality and decency. When Clinton got impeached after the scandal, republicans ran on a "morality" campaign; they said they would clean up politics and bring decency back to America. Now that's a dangerous thing to do because it emplifies any wrongdoing commited by any republican. The whole bathroom incident with Larry Craig could've blown over if it wasn't for the fact that he sat on the committee that got Clinton impeached. You see where I'm going with this? As soon as the democrats found out about him, they riped him apart, eventually leading to his resignation and his plead of guilt. But we can't blame them, if the roles would have been reversed republicans would have done the same, and it was payback from Clinton. So in a sense you're right to say that republicans are held to higher standards, but we have to see that this is how they wanted it to be.
Half correct. And the Democrats ran from 2000 -2004 on an "If we are not elected the world will end due to global warming" campaign. They ran in 2006 in a "The Republicans are corrupt and spending to much money we need to clean house" campaign. But the Democrats are by far the biggest carbon users, by far the most corrupt, by far the biggest spenders. Still no accountability, go figure.
But how exactly do we know that democrats are the biggest carbon users? If we look at companies having carbon as a by-product, we fall into the automotive companies, smelting plants, and coal power plants. All of those sectors have contributed greatly to the republican funds or campaigns such as the Southern Company (Southern's employees have contributed $217,047 to help get Bush elected, and the company itself more than $6.2m to republican campaigns since 1990; the Independent (UK) Nov 16, 2007). There is also Allegheny Energy's Hatfield Ferry coal plant in Masontown, Pennsylvania; America's fifth greatest producer of sulfur dioxide and carbon. It has also contributed $22,500 to the Bush campaign and the Republican National Committee in 2000, additionally, since 1999, Allegheny Energy officers and members of its Board of Directors have made individual donations of over $190,000 to the Bush campaign, the Republican National Committee and state-level Republican organizations, Republican candidates and right-leaning Political Action Committees (PAC). I'm not trying to attack your position, but if you want to say that the biggest polluters are democrats, I have hundreds of different articles, campaign contributions, political affiliations, etc... to prove otherwise. Let's pull our heads out of asses for a minute, the democrats are no saints by any means, but neither are the republicans. I think it evens out pretty good.
Ha! Bullshit you picked out the most vulnerable point. The Unions overwhelmingly give more money to the Democrats by a HUGE margin. We are subsadizing the union ruined companies in Detroit right now as we speak tit for tat. Looks like Quid Pro Quo to me .
But I was talking about actual carbon use by Democrats traveling all over the world on the public tab.
I found some information for you to look at, I'll sum it up quickly: Bush during his presidency flew an estimated 1,675 times, more than 200 times per year. At a cost of $56,518 per hour. As you know Air Force One never travels alone, it's followed by three C5 giant cargo planes for the limo and other vehicles. The C5 Galaxy is the largest cargo plane in the US Air Force. Over the eight years Bush was in power he spent $185,000,000 per year, out of taxpayer money to fly around the world and within the States. Here are my sources: http://http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/02/AR2005080201703_pf.html http://oversight.house.gov/documents/20060316113550-47530.pdf http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/c-5.htm
Exactly and if you multiply Obamas carbon use times 10 its way more then Bush. Obama has only had ten months so far. And the Democrats have already engaged in more travel but its better they bri9ng along their family and friends and people who give them money. Since you guys are onto changing subject just though I'd bring it up.
Unfortunately I cannot find any conclusive data on Obama's plane travels. If you find any information can you post a link?
Where did he go to 'woo' the IOC on behalf of Chicago? I mean really, he's the freaking president and he is still playing 'boy' to the big wigs in Chicago. How efficient was his trip? How did it turn out? At least Bush was flying to, uh I dont know, political summits? Pelosi alone will be the end of the US as we know it. Obombus will just get us attacked for his weakness in dealing with foreign leaders that scoff at the US. He is a pansie. I dont care how much smack he talked on the basketball courts in Chicago. Do something, then run your mouth, those that run their mouth first are punks. On the streets and in the white house.
Obama trying to boost party money, morale Obama has not stopped campaigning since he started in late 2006. That means traveling via jet with his entourage. Now on the government tab. Remember the failed Health care blitz the the media worked with him on every day repeating his talking points to convince you socialized medicine was the way to go. Just about every day a new speech at a new location. He has used WAY WAY WAY more carbon than the Republicans all put together.
