I'm not a spammer, and I've been lurking for years. You seem to know a lot about animals, and I have a question about my cat.

He is 16. In June he was diagnosed with a round cell tumor in his front paw. Me being unemployed, decided to make him comfortable until it was time.

Well, last week the paw started to bleed heavily. I was warned the tumor could rupture. Is that it? The tumor is on top of the paw, it bled on his pad underneath. I ran it under cold water, applied peroxide, and now it's just a scab, he slightly limps.

He drinks, but will not eat hard food unless he doesn't have canned food for a day or so. He used to love McD's QPers, but lately won't eat those. i know it's junk, but I figure, whatever he'll eat, he'll eat. He looks so skinny, yet is still affectionate, drinks, eats a little, and doesn't seem to be suffering. Do you think his tumor ruptured, and what is your gen opinion? Please be nice, I know Fugly forums is popular for bashing but I respect your knowledge.
    Thanks, Lisa

    damn baby hit the button..

anyway. I know it sounds cruel, to say "put him to sleep" but keeping a cat in pain, that is slowly starving to death... is not what he or anyone wants.

and even it you had the money .. to remove that tumor.. at his age, it would be considered crazy... due to his age, health... HUGE chance he would not survive the surgery... yet you would have the bill to pay.

16? Isn't that like 140 in dog years? Why couldn't she just chop his paw off? No paw=no tumor=no problem right? Other than he'd walk a little tripody. At least he'd get to keep one of his nine lives a little longer.

if it was an outside kitty, he would have already crawled off to die. I hate to see anything suffer... that has no hope of recovery. Prolonging death so you have few extra days to look and love on a pet.. while it is in pain.. just sucks.

again I do not mean to sound like a bitch.. and I am sorry if I do.

I understand that, but that decision would be so impossible to make.

I have had dogs my whole life with the exception of 5 years. The dogs I had when I was a kid, well euthanasia was my parent's decision. Now I have 4 dogs and I am a grown up and will have to make that call and I honestly don't know what I would do in that situation. I would want to keep holding out hope.

I just know that I don't want to have them put down at the vet. I want them to die in the comfort of their own home but I have no idea how to make that happen. After that, I will have to be institutionalized.

Thanks for replying, I appreciate it and you aren't coming across as bitchy. Now he has started to eat again, so I dunno. Have you ever seen a ruptured tumor? Do you think that's what happened here? I must have fixed it up pretty good because it's only a tiny scab now.

There are mobile vets that will euthanize in your home but it cost about a bajillion dollars.

I was an IT guy at a slaughter house. I didnt have anything to do with killing cows. Just put in the RFID system that helped track the pieces.

Worst job evar. Well it paid ok, but I really didnt want to be there.
