Should've titled this one "Hey Schmed..."

I recently did some catching-up via Wikipedia on what all has gone on in the world of Hulk since I stopped reading the comic back in the early 90's. Possibly started by seeing an issue of "Skaar - Son of Hulk:" come through the store, but not looking through it.

Specifically, I'm looking to read the Hulk-themed trilogy of crossovers. I enjoyed the Infinity Gauntlet six-episode story back in the day, but never followed up on the 'sequels.'

As far as I know, they used this same technique with a story revolving around the Hulk, and there's two 6-issue series:

"Planet Hulk," wherein the Hulk is marooned on a planet Russell Crowe style, kills the king, inherits the planet, and chooses his queen.

"World War Hulk," which finds the Hulk seeing the original ship that sent him to the planet explode, taking most of the planet (including his wife and unborn child) with it, sending him into a rage and somehow making a planetary jump back to Earth, where he kills most every other 'superhero' in the Marvel universe.

And the finale' to the trilogy,

"Skaar - Son of Hulk" - which was apparently a 12-issue miniseries that explains how the wifey merged with the planet as it was being destroyed, the embryo was incubated in a pool of acid, and eventually Skaar emerged from his cocoon to be raised by giant insects on a desolate planet, then traveling home to meet his dad.

Now, I don't really care for the condition of the mags, nor do I have the desire to own all episodes in first-print editions, cryogenically sealed in polystyrene bags with appropriately-sized acid-free virgin paperboard making sure the corners don't get knicked (like the rest of my collection from the days when hologram covers sold copies.) A simple published story in one or three volume(s) would suit me just fine.

Since I haven't bought a comic book since the early 90's, where is the best place now to get these mags (or graphic novels, if they exist?)

Go to Borders Bookstore or whatever large chain bookstore is in your area. Everything you mentioned can be found in one volume, well each individual thing. Planet Hulk in one volume, Warld War Hulk in one volume etc etc. If they don't have it they will order it.

The Infinity Gauntlet crossovers were fantastic! Thanos is one of my favorite villains.

If you do end up at Borders see if they have any reprint/compilations or whatever they're called of The Authority. Really well written, super violent comic book from a few years back.

Not the biggest fan of Borders.

I can barely bring myself to spend the price for a movie at a discount store, or even Breast Buy, for that matter - I never understood how Borders stayed in business by charging so damn much for shit you can find elsewhere for much, much less.

Is this part of the 'let's put a trendy cold coffee booth at the corner with barstools, and be hip' business model?

I should've mentioned this in the beginning (thought I did, but I suppose it was an unfulfilled endeavor.) I'm trying to do this on the cheap. Again, no longer a collector, don't want to spend but maybe half of the publishing price of the graphic novel itself - half.com? ebay?

Surely there has to be an alternative to paying those outrageous Borders prices...

I'll admit it has been a while but that's just because of a complete lack of effort on my part.

Um, no. After using the worn cotton t-shirt of yours to jerk off while driving the John Deere over cacti, I can clearly notice the groove left in the sleeve material of your 'Chewbacca...' in the worn fabric.

    Thanks a lot, dickwad. :-(

That was a joke, Schmed. You know I have that Space Invaders shirt in a sealed glass display case, directly over the machine. ;)

I appreciate the link... I had some car trouble that ended up consuming a little of my disposable income, so I never got around to ordering it - and, in the meantime, discovered that people are sharing comic books much in the same way as movies and music are being shared via p2p. :)

I figure, as much money as Marvel made off of me in my comic collecting heyday (what, with all the hyped-up hologram Spidey covers I collected during the 'overprinting' phase and all,) that they can afford to let me catch up on one or two stories for free.

Speaking of which, I'm liking what I've read so far.
