Business has been down at the theater, now at first glace you could be saying "Lol Recession durrr." But upon closer examination it isn't. The only movies thus far doing well are lower budget movies, usually aimed at older crowds. The high budget movies are suffering. Star Trek came out today, and guess what...it's probably going to be a bomb despite how utterly amazing it is. Maybe it's because just because no one likes star trek? Nope, the seniors flocked to it during the day, as did they at night. Though one problem, where are the teenagers? The simple answer, pirating the movie since it was aimed at a younger crowd. If you think pirating isn't as bad as it seems then well... http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/13/world-of-goo-has-90-piracy-rate/ Yup...I think it's almost a direct cause for the recession, as entertainment affects everything.
I personally don't download movies, music yes movies no, but I like that people do. It's revenge for Hollywood shoving so much total bullshit down our throats for all these years.
HARRRRRRRRRRRRR shiver me timber and blow me............... down rub a little of that oil on me belaying pin jimboy. oops, wrong piracy.
Me and Pukey went to a movie once. Snack prices were so high I asked them if they had In-House Financing. All I wanted was some damn swedish fish. Pukey wouldn't eat them because they were made with gelatin.
You make a compelling argument but it just falls on deaf ears I simply have no pity for Hollywood. Personally I think I am like a Majority of Americans who simply do not feel the need to run to the theater and see a new release. I'm happy to wait for the movie to be listed on Dish on Demand. or whatever service the cable company provides. Or use a service like Net Flicks which BTW is the best way to pirate videos.
I think it slow everywhere...here is one scary example Last Friday My sister and I went to Lunch at Joe's Crab Shack with the babies.... my sister said lets a wait a little while for the lunch crowd to leave ... but then the kids got bitchy, so went ahead. We got there at 12:15 (normally lunch rush time) We were the only people there... and were the only there by the time we left around 1:20 It was fun, they turned up the music, and since we were the only ones there... we decided to keep their shirts clean and feed them topless. that is red spot light on my nephews head... not red hair... he is blond, mine is the little brown baby that looks likea mexican Anyway here in GA .... everyone of my friends business has slowed down, for hair salons, spas, restaurants/bars, pool service, everything... other vet clinics. SO I am not surprised if the theaters are not full. I feel very lucky that our business has boomed... since people are trying to save money... when I go into other vet clinics to borrow or return drugs/vaccines... I am shocked that they have no clients. We go out to eat a lot (it how I keep this frumpy figure) at places we would have a 30 min wait time- we walk right in... I feel sorry for the waitresses and tip bigger now. PLUS I looked at my local theater listings last night, I wanted to see a movie... and there was nothing playing I wanted to see.
I won't go to a movie theatre at all now. I don't feel comfortable sitting in a dark room with a sticky floor full of strangers and swine flu.
People always seem to forget that movie prices are regulated by the actual movie companies, not the theater. Theater only gets money from snacks and ads. And I'm talking about piracy in general, it's pretty disgusting. They always say 'Well I'd buy it if it was good' and shit, then World of Goo comes out, recieves utterly rave reviews and is only 10 bucks and they pirate it still. It sort of hurts the morals of our society and our collected concience when people become this utterly defencive about stealing things. To the point where they don't consider it stealing anymore.
What kind of camera is that it seems to have pretty good depth of focus. But the focus point is kind of even with the rest of the picture. Was that on auto focus?
My camera is ... let me look at it ... a Sony Cyber Shot DSC-T300 10.1 mega Pixels. I guess it is a good one, cause the Arab keeps bitching.. "You stole my 500$ camera" but who knows what he paid for it... money changes over time with him... every year my living room set jumps up another 1K - I guess kinda like fishing story. By 2012 this will be a 700$ camera and 12k sofa set... he is retarded. that is not my camera case on the table... My sister has a "real" camera that requires you to be know what you are doing. I have no idea how to use my camera... some pics turn out great- some look like shit... I never change the settings.
Yeah that's a cool camera whats great is that it is small and 10 meg. I'm waiting it out till they come out with 10mp or better camera phones I figure its a short matter of time. I think the Digital SLR cameras are cool to play around with but you never have it with you when you see that perfect shot. I'm looking forward to taking it with me the next time I take a trip somewhere though which is likely to be a year or so since I just got the new job and no days on the books.
Im writing a 10 page paper on this very subject for my computer ethics class on whether this is moraly wrong or not. Using a utilitarian arguemnet for this, essentially stating that it does more benefit than harm, and even tough all those people invovled in the film that made it, they are still getting paid for their work regardless of whether the movie is a stinker or not. Well, actually a majority of it is on music piracy. But yeah, I really think the movie theater going experience is a dying breed, it doesnt make sense to spend so much on a movie ticket regardless what movie it is, plus the added expenditure with the concession foods? Yeah, no thanks, I'd rather wait for the DVD rip of Star Trek for free, instead of spending $20 on me and someone else.
Sorry Fernie - We weathered the storm of the death of a similar industry back in the early 90's - when was the last time you actually saw a video arcade? Pass the blame as much as you want, but there's more at play than piracy in the death of theaters. Much like the end of the video arcades, the death of movie theaters is rooted in the ability to recreate the ambiance of the big screen, rattle of the seat, and surround sound --- all within the comfort and confines of your own home. In a place where you can hit the pause button to go and take a leak or make some more popcorn (which, by the way, as good as it tastes, that oil-based shit they serve at the theaters doesn't hold a kernel to the air-popped, REAL butter encapsulated, magnificent kernels I make at home... sorry.) Much in the same manner that technology allowed people to recreate the arcade experience at home, it will be the same dagger that signs the death certificate for the theater. The indoor theater, that is - Drive-In Theaters died even before the arcades. Think about it from the mind of the person you don't see in the Star Trek crowd. Granted, that was a badass movie - utterly fantastic, magnificently played, and bound to piss off a hell of a lot of trekkies... But who in their right mind wants to pay ten bucks for the privilege of seeing it while cramped in a chair less inviting than your couch, in a room full of other people (many of which that lack the discretion of leaving their children at home,) paying as much as an entire entree for half a cent's worth of corn and 2 cents worth of polyunsaturated butter-flavored oil --- AND still being seated in a damn chair that has a cupholder/armrest that hinders the ease of receiving a blow job from your date while the movie is playing. Tell me - please - why I should go to a fucking theater? Honestly. I'm gonna level with you, bro. The hull is breached. It's time to man an escape pod. Get out while you can, as that ship's going down.
I still go to theaters for movies I want to see, especially like Trek, I am not a particular fan of the series, or the previous movies, but sometimes you just got to see all the CG on the big screen. I will see Terminator Salvation in the theater too. The titles I have seen previous to their releases - X-Men:Wolverine, Fast & Furious, Notorious. All movies that would have cost me 40.00 in tickets and snack (if just the little woman and I went) and I would have been ticked. Not that they werent decent, but no they werent worth 12.00 a person. Now, if they took out the CG and built sets I could see it, I hate to think what Cameron paid to build his partial titanic, but it was worth it in how real the scenes were. Just my .02.
I miss arcades. I really miss them alot. Remember how the atari or nintendo version of the game was always shittier than the arcade version? I played a mean Kangaroo....
