It certainly seemed prophetical that on April Tenth of this year, I should find the gun I've been waiting for, ever since I got it's little cousin, roughly a year ago. Introducing the Taurus Judge Magnum. Essentially, the same fucking revolver I bought a year ago, but with the added ability to shoot 3" .410 shotgun shells, in addition to the 45LC and .410 (2.5") shells that it's little cousin does. Finally - they've offered it in a completely blued finish (that's "Black in color" to the non-gun-person) instead of that horridly visible stainless version that was out when I bought my first one. Believe me, as intimidating as the gun looks in any color - this is not the purpose of a firearm. If you point such an object at anyone, the idea is for that to be their last memory - not, "hey - that's big and shiny... maybe I should go away..." Why the excitement? Let's see. in 000 Buckshot, I'll now be releasing five nice stainless steel BB's into a spreading spiral pattern with every trigger pull instead of three... etc.
Which one? There's two posted, and numerous variations... "Ultralight" Stainless, 3" barrel (seems absurd with such a powerful round) Blued in 2.5" & 3" cylinders, 3" barrel, (both pictured above) Blued in 2.5" cylinder, 3" barrel, with gaudy gold-trigger & hammer Blued in 2.5" cylinder, 6" barrel Stainless in 2.5" or 3" cylinder, 3" barrel Stainless in 2.5" cylinder, 6" barrel I was just happy to see the Magnum version finally available in the blued finish - can't wait for a carjacker now! I'll tell ya one thing, though... Wearing an "Uncle Mike's" neoprene "in the pant" holster on either one of these babies makes me awfully nervous. The thought of anything of this caliber pointing at either of my testicles without any form of safety just makes me uneasy. I can just see the damn thing going off if my seat belt catches it the wrong way and pulls the hammer back 'just enough...'
BB's? fuckin ball bearings is more like it. 000 buck is .36 caliber, they must be stacked one ontop of the other. I'd hate to be the recipient of that blast. Hope you don't shoot your balls off trying to draw the gun.
It'd have to be the Stainless in 2.5" cylinder, 6" barrel because it's not black and the barrel is longer than the one you posted. It's a big ass gun.
I know it's the same gun because I don't know how to properly pronounce Taurus. I pronounce it tore-us and that is probably wrong. And he has the judge and my .22 is like the court reporter.
I chose my words poorly. You're absolutely correct - they're all lined up in a row. I'd hope to have a will drawn up already, should I ever come face to face with that barrel, for certain. And yes... the nuts are always at the forefront of my mind when I use that holster. Nevermind the "Always powder the boys" sentiment that's been floating around here ever since my last testicular emergency - this is paramount.
The only problem with the 6" barrel is that the effective distance is somewhat diminished with any caliber other than the .45 LC. The reason this particular gun (a concealable shotgun, for all intents and purposes,) is legal, is that the barrel is 'rifled' - this means that there exists a spiraled pattern of grooves inside the barrel that cause the shot to spin as it exits the barrel. With regard to a typical handgun, this reduces drop and improves accuracy, as the single projectile is combating the natural force of gravity through it's spin. When it comes to multiple projectiles being shat out of a bore at the same time, it's a different issue. The more time those lead/steel projectiles spend in a rifled shot column, the more they will spin when exiting the muzzle. I'd love to compare targets with comparable loads between your dad's 6" barrel and my 3" - with the same loads. I would predict that his gun would produce a more pronounced spread at any given range than either of mine - due to the added time the shot spends traveling down the barrel, and gaining centripetal momentum due to the rifling. Hell, maybe that'd even be a benefit - you sure wouldn't have to spend as much time aiming to hit your target. It'll even give you an extra moment to play God by deciding whether or not to grant the luxury of a second shot to your attacker.
