I dont know, am I the only one who likes movies like this? I bring it up because I wathced 'I am legend' last night on demand. I saw it in the theatre, because I think some movies you just have to see on the big screen, but I did get to fast forward through the crappy parts. For some reason I like the way manhattan looks all empty and stuff. With the cars all jammed up and buildings covered with sheets of poly. Am I the only one that likes movies like this? I liked Jericho on CBS, but they really rushed that so they could end it. Other than the complete lack of science, I liked the 'day after tomorrow' for the effects, some neat stuff. So what is your favorite 'end of the world' movie? *I have 'the happening' coming on Netflix as soon as I send drill bit taylor back...
Yeah, I like these movies. I liked I am Legend, Day After Tomorrow, Twilight Zone episodes with this theme as well as Outer Limits. cant recall any other movies at the moment, but yeah, Ive always enjoyed these types of movies, I'd go as far as to say that they are my favorite type. I liked Deep Impact and Armageddon too, but as with most stuff, the romance factor ruined them.
Yeah I like that kind of stuff as long as its not to dragged out which is why Twilight Zone and Outerlimits are great. I have a short attention span I guess.
I am a fan of end of the world type movies but they get so old so quick. It's the same fucking thing everytime, a person or handful of people survive whatever disease/natural disaster/huge war that happens, have to come to terms that they are alone in the world, try to rebuild civilization while fighting off some random force and then come to terms again that they are alone and screwed, most likely with a sunset or sunrise happening in the background. A little deviation from the norm would do the genre a whole lot of good.
You know that reality show something like "How to pick up chicks" with all the nerds and really hot chicks? How about they all are doing some reality skit where they go to some cave somewhere with all the hot chicks and outside there is some sort of annihilation of all population. So not its down to just the nerd and the hotties. And they like calculate this big plan to spawn a new culture of nerd dudes and hot chicks. No more nerds getting sand kicked in their faces cause the whole world will be nerds. and hot chicks of course.
You must be a nerd. I cant remember the exact name, but The History Channel did a show on 'Life after Humans' something like that. And it showed how quickly all signs of human existence would be gone from the face of the earth in like 10k years. Except for small remnants of the great wall of china and something else (I think the pyramids). It was fascinating. I liked Planet of the Apes. The original. It had some pretty neat stuff, some kind of dumb stuff too. I dont know if I like the Alien invasion thing, maybe a real fact based nuclear war movie. Kind of do it 'Pulp Fiction' style. Start in the middle, after the nukes, then go forward, then go back to before the nukes, play it forward to during the nukes. Show the cities getting sucked up in the mushroom cloud. Then go back to before, show which ever country strated it 'launching'. Then flip back. show the 'survivors' dying of radiation poisoning. Then the few that still live, show them in a land battle for clean soil. That's why I always had respect for JFK. Not only was he banging the hottest piece of tail (at home and abroad) he also told the world "If one nuclear device is launched towards American soil I will nuke every communist country on the globe' (thats a blue-collar interpretation). Thats the kind of balls we need in the WhiteHouse.
Kennedy had his good points. He lowered taxes BTW and I understand was a fiscal conservative and was a Democrat before Democrat meant Communist ally. The world knows right now that there are obviously two sets of rules. One that America has to play by and a different set of rules for terrorism sponsors like for instance Iran. We need a president that says this in an address to the world. (it would bring about more peace than any hippy could ever imagine) "Look if the US gets a nuclear assault within any of its boarders or territories, we will retaliate by nuclear annihilation of every country our CIA informs us is a sponsor of terrorism." "So you folks better police yourselves. You know how to get in touch with us so just let us know where to pickup your terrorists for questioning in an undisclosed location" “If you’re not a sponsor of terrorism and you do not desire to see hell on earth in your lifetime. Then we recommend that you have a talk with your terrorist neighbors. Personally I’m through with diplomacy for now.â€
Joe, the problem with that way of thinking is this.... We are relying on the CIA to tell us where to nuke. Aren't those the guys that SWORE to us that Iraq had hidden WMDs?!? By that logic, Iraq would have been nuked. Second, what about the innocent civilians who are going about their daily business driving trucks, fixing pipes, building schools.... Do they deserve to die because someone that "forced" their way into power supports terrorism on the Untied States? Do we as American Citizens deserve to take the blame (and suffer the consequences) for invading a country who had done nothing to us?? Should we pay the ultimate penalty for attacking Iraq? Far as I know, the senate and Geroge W Bush decided that for us. I never casted a vote to invade Iraq. I don't even remember the nation asking its citizens if it wanted a war. If some other nation nukes this country, I'm sure those in charge will survive while millions of innocents who were just trying to squeeze out a living will die. I'm sure the president will call all of the fall civilians "heroes" against terroism (for daring to farm at the wrong place and time). But would you rather be a hero and dead... or a farmer and alive? Give me my seeds, please. Because of our actions over the past 5 years, the world now hates us and sees us as a bully. And you know what? They are right. We put assholes in charge that decided they know whats best for the world. We forced our ideals on others and now they are pushing back. If Capitalism is so great, why does our economy suck so bad right now? Because we are ignorant in thinking that our way is the RIGHT way for everyone.
Chee-dog! First of all, glad to see you back on the boards regularly. I'll never forget the look on that cook's face when you asked for pink tacos with no cheese... Reading your response leaves me to wonder, though... Have you ever read about the "Marsh Arabs?" They're not given much press - in fact, I don't think they're given any press. Cliff's notes version: Much of the southern lands in Iraq were covered in marshes up until Saddam Hussein came into power. Indigenous people lived and thrived on these lands for thousands of years until Saddam decided to dry the land up for oil excavation by diverting the Tigris & Euphrates rivers, turning the wetlands into desert, and leaving these people without the means or the skills to survive. In the meantime, neighboring countries were starting to tap into said rivers to create electricity, taking advantage of the increased flow due to the damming on the Iraqi fronts. When Saddam was taken out of power, the first thing these people did was rejoice in tearing down those dams, which only partially replenished the marshlands. However, one component of their continued sustenance back before the dams were built, was the bi-annual (if I'm not mistaken - it might've only been once a year) flooding that washed away the stagnant waters, pathogens, and bacteria, and provided fresh water and food for the people. This no longer happens naturally, due to the water diversion from neighboring countries. To this day, they have to periodically recreate the natural flooding by damming up the water supply and releasing it in an attempt to bring this area (and it's peoples) back to it's former prosperity. In furtherance of the previous facts, check out this video for more "personal" accounts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB1nwuA_avE You never hear about this kinda shit in the news. It's always "Blame everything on Bush" - as if he had any real power once the Democratic party took a majority hold of the Legislative branch back in '02, rejected any legislature proposed, and blamed the entire economical "crisis" on the current administration. Granted, we originally put Saddam in place to secure our energy needs 20+ years ago, but as per usual, power invites both corruption and selfishness, and Saddam exhibited both of those characteristics. Try and tell me with a straight face that a country making millions off of their oil reserves is incapable of hiding *anything* - Hell, look at the things the US government is currently hiding from their own citizens... Back to politics, though... For the last six years, a plan was set in motion to stymie any attempt the Republican president had to influence domestic affairs - this includes the housing "crisis" which was orchestrated by Democrats on the payrolls of these sham organizations, and can be seen HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs (Mind you, this video was recorded back in 2002.) This was all garnered to earn a Liberal president during the next election (which was inevitable...) and the demonizing of the current figurehead, coupled by the inane overuse of the word "Change" in the campaign trail would have landed Scooby Doo a victory. Before you cast blame on a talking head, I think you should consider the factors that played into our current national problems, as well as the other problems in the world that we seem to be intertwined with.
