other than in your bad yard and at trees and your neighbors' houses, where do you go to shoot? Can you only use paper targets or can you bring stuff like old computers and things to see what it will do to them?
Lomo is a collector, and lately a little bit paranoid. He just likes to collect stuff. I think I'd like to take a few shots at this old monitor I have here. Other than that I don't know what else. Full cans of shaving cream would probably be cool. Or a bunch of old phonebooks stacked up to see how far the bullets would go through them.

I think I told him the same thing not too long ago. But hey, so long as he's not shooting people, why the hell not collect guns? My Dad has or had a ton of them and he's relatively normal. Yes. ...already out the door. Not at a typical range, they have strict guidelines to adhere to, with concern for the environment. I was talking to the owner of the range I go to, and he said he was given two choices when he started the place, one would require him to 'cleanse the land' annually, and the other was to do it once the place closes. He opted for the latter, and wisely so. Now, they have better chemical processes wherein they remove a layer of soil, and completely remove the lead/etc. and recycle it. When that range finally closes, the guy has 4 companies that all want the contract, and the recovered materials will translate into his retirement fund. Besides, I'm sure they wouldn't want to have to run around and clean up after everyone that's pissed off at their Playstation takes it out for a little plinking. Which, by the way, is the informal term for doing what you're asking about. It's best done on a ranch, somewhere that it's not only legal, but safe. A friend of mine used to live on a ranch, and he had the perfect setup for a range. It was essentially his landfill spot, a pit that he dumped his trash into, and periodically cover with topsoil. The land itself had hills all around it, so there was a natural 'bullet trap' behind the target. We'd line up bottles, cans, rocks, hell - anything that was already there, actually, and have a great time. I haven't seen his new place, but he's spoken of his designated shooting area. One thing I keep wanting to try is milk jugs full of water. I hear those are fun. That's when holsters and straps for the rifles come in handy. Yeah, Jefe said the same damn thing. I will be looking into the tannerite thing, too... Say, Jefe - you also once called me a "Dangerous Menace" - Can you fix it to read that under my name instead of "Old School?"
Geez... Which one? If I'm not mistaken, the last gun I bought before this one was hardly a "cannon" - it was just a little .22LR Beretta pistol. If I remember correctly, it was only $229.
That's a lot cheaper than I thought the were. I thought even a cheap gun would cost $500 bucks or more.
It might have to do with where you live... I don't know... Here's the breakdown (as close as I can remember it) for the firearms I own: Rossi .357 Magnum (made by Taurus), 6 shot revolver, Chrome, 2" barrel... ~ $250? (it's been a few years) Taurus Judge, 45 Colt/.410 shotgun 5-shot revolver, blued finish, 3" barrel... ~ $500 Glock 26, semi-auto, sub-compact, 9mm pistol... ~ free. (had my name drawn in a promotion.) Taurus Millennium PT-111, semi-auto, sub-compact, 9mm pistol... ~ $300 FN Herstal "Five-seveN" USG, semi-auto, standard-sized, 5.7x28mm pistol. Used, but in excellent shape, with everything it came with new... Purchased with 1,100 rounds of ammo... $1,000 used H & R "Pardner Pump" 12ga Shotgun, 18.5" barrel, rifle stock... ~$200 Beretta U22 Neos, 22LR semi-auto pistol, 4.5" barrel, full upper rail... $229 Century Arms M70-AB2 (AK-47 clone consisting of parts from the Zastava plant, in what is currently Yugoslavia), chrome-lined barrel, black furniture, underfolding stock, threaded barrel w/ adjustable slant-cut muzzlebrake, 30 rd. magazine, excellent condition... ~ $500 used In retrospect, the two I purchased used were a far better value, as the money I saved on each allowed for purchasing an inordinate (and quite frankly, ungodly) amount of ammo for each. Take the Five-seveN for example... I bought a pistol that retailed for around $1,000, and in buying it used, managed to get the seller to drop his asking price, and his initial offer on ammo, to a nice round number, $1K. I ended up walking out of his office in downtown Austin, traveling down the elevator in the company of about five 'suits' (that got remarkably quiet), with a body-armor piercing pistol in a briefcase, a custom holster, and 1,100 rounds of ammo (that would've cost me a considerable sum otherwise,) and waving as I strolled past the security kiosk of a major bank on my way out to the parking garage. It wouldn't have been so tense if the cardboard case for the 2,000 rounds of ammo wasn't stamped with a plain description on each side of the carton... The AK-47 was purchased at a pawn shop, and it was just chance that I happened to be there. I had checked the place out a week earlier, and was considering purchasing one of three SKS rifles (two Romanian, one Yugoslavian, the Yugo had a flash suppressor/grenade launcher at the tip, so it kind of 'gleamed' in my eyes,) and I happened to go back after someone had pawned the exact AK that I've had on order for the past two months through a vendor whom will no longer receive my business.
...forgot to mention, the money I saved on the AK allowed me to purchase 1,500 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammo for it. My next target is an AR-15 "lower" that will accommodate a standard M-16 5.56 NATO (.223), an M4, and even a BMG-50 upper. This time, the order will be delivered.
what kind of AR you gonna go for? There's a lot of new Colt AR-15's on the market lately, Stag arms makes solid guns as does DPMS, Bushmaster, Rock Rivers and others. My next one is going to be a Bushmaster carbon 15 R97F5.5 pounds with a loaded 30 round mag. No good for the .50 upper though. Uppers can be shipped to your house with no FFL, the lower is what you need the FFL for.
I've never been much for "Lowers" unless it was a perverted bondage/S & M thing, but you summed it up in your last sentence. This is why I'm 'shooting for' the lower before things change 'round these parts... Two options, as of a couple days ago: (The order) A DPMS forged T7075 aluminum 2-stage match/sniper, 2lb trigger, carbon fiber block & piston chamber, titanium firing pin, or a Bushmaster complete lower, apparently unavailable at the time of the initial order, GI spec, M4 capable, etc, etc, etc... $304 and $368, respectively. I think I'll go with my gut...
