I get the script and hold it for a month because I didn't need to fill it right away. I go today and fill it. It had 5 refills. I look at the bottle and the 5 refills are there but the 'refill before' date cuts off the last refill so there is no way I can fill it 5 times before then. Since when did they start giving you 6 months to refill shit? And why is the date not 6 mos from the date filled OR the original RX date? It's like the dumbass pharmacist pulled a date out of their ass.

Lomo, you used to work in a pharmacy, what gives?

I'm fucking firing CVS. This is the second time they've dicked me over. The last time was with birth control pills. I missed three in a row and the directions say to start a new pack, but guess what? CVS wouldn't let me do it because it hadn't been 30 days. I'm so sure people are abusing Ortho Tri Cyclen. I was like, "It's not like I'm trying to fill Vicodin." And the pharmacist was like, "The computer won't let me do it. Take 4 today." What the super fuck?!

we had a similar situation with walgreens. the wife had the dr. call in a script, she had one on hold, she went to pick it up, they gave her the jank right, then a month later when it was time for the script to be filled they said they filled the new script first and the refill expired since then.

What a bunch of fucking retards.

Yea, she cussed the nigerian pharmacist out. Really well.

A couple of 'how fucking stupid are you people'.

Now we go to Krogers. :)

nothing says class like cussing out the pharmacist witht the f-bomb. If the prescription wasn't written right it's not the pharmacists fault. What happened to simply having the pharmacist call the doctor and picking it up in the am the next day? Of course then she wouldn't get to let all your neighbors know how red you all are.

    What are you talking about?

The doctor did call it in. These are her crazy pills so I can take no credit for her behavior.

Instead of filling the refill they had on file, they decided to fill the 'new' script instead. Thats just like counting your pills. It might say 30 on the bottle but some how you run out 2 days early.....

Like I said we dont go to walgreens anymore, we just go to Kroger. The last time we went to walgreens they actually tried to give my daughter the wrong prescription. And then argued that it was right. So I have no feelings for the idiots at walgreens. Regardless of how 'red' my neighbors think I am.

That's where I am going. I go to Kroger once a week anyway.

I guess narcotics only get a 6 month refill time frame, but the date still was less than 6 mos from the RX date.

So I learned to fill my RX the date I get it or else I am fucking myself over. Oh, and not to use CVS because they pick random dates as the cut-off date. I really believe it should have been 6 mos from the RX date but I think 6 mos from the fill date would make more sense and be fair to the patient.

But what I was filling was only a Schedule IV and was not a narcotic. I'd have to check the state laws on that one.

    I guess it's a federal law.

    For those who care:

Prescriptions for Schedule IV drugs may be refilled up to five times within a six month period from the date the prescription was issued.

Okay, so CVS did fuck up my prescription. They gave me less than 6 mos from the date the prescription was issued. I should go fight them on it and make them change it even though it won't make a difference AND then change my prescriptions over to Kroger.

What part of this story did you not understand?

A "Schedule IV" is a narcotic. Drugs are classified based on their potential for abuse. The lower the number, the more 'watched' they are. Anything from 2-5 is considered a narcotic. Those prescriptions, by law, are only valid for 6 months from the written date, with the exclusion of Class II meds (Ritalin, Adderal, Oxycontin, and those marvelous Duragesic patches, for example,) were, up until recently, only valid for a period of 7 days from the date in which they were written, with no refills allowed. Apparently, this has changed, and I believe the cut-off is now 21 days (I could be wrong.)

The whole 'schedule' thing is what originally led me to adopt the name "Lomotil" in the first place as an online persona. I thought it hilarious to think that there existed a prescription narcotic for chronic diarrhea that set up a red flag and had potential for abuse. Think about it: A few friends, bored, chilling out on a patio somewhere, and someone says, "Hey guys - anyone want to snort some Lomotil?!? We won't shit for a week!"

Dan did make a valid point, however - just have the pharmacy call your physician for any refills, and furthermore, you should contact the doc and let him know that you never filled the 6 'scripts, and that you'll be needing more refills (unless you're due to see him/her soon.)

Go back and request your original prescription back. They will stamp it, and indicate how many times it was filled, but I guarantee that they have it on file, and if the federal laws haven't changed, they are LEGALLY required to give you that little slip of paper back, upon request.

Oh, and I think I may have figured out about the date variation because I got another script filled there. I am a piece of hypocrite slime but I can't help it. The are really close to home and the drive thru is so convenient.

Anyway, I think they don't count months with 31 days, just 30x6=180 days on the 6 months. This is why the date gets shorted a few days. I find that totally unfair. If the script was written on 7/3/2008, it should expire on 1/3/2009, not 1/1/2009. Their system needs tweaked.
