I can read most of his books in a couple of days. Not that Im a speed reader or nothing, but Once I start I just read through it. And lets face it, if we all had lives we wouldnt be on here The only book of his that took me a while to get through was IT. Only because the first time I read it I was 12 and it scared the shit out of me. I put it down for two weeks.
IT is one of my favorites by King , The Skeleton Crew was my first taste of King and The Mist really freaked me out.I agree Schmed, Eyes of the dragon was excellent ,very different from his horror.Anyone read The Long Walk,he did it under Richard Bachman?
Thats the clown one right? I tried "The Tommy Knockers" and another one I can not remember the name for the like of me. Some guy I think he was a reporter seemed to have a split personality. An evil alter ego. Thing is at the time I was in the military and liked quick stories that I could leave and get back to without have to go over the details where I left off. Little 20 or 30 min. sessions in between duties. A friend was into reading Louis Lamoure. His books I found were great for just that. Then I got out.
I am home finally. I missed my flight Friday, as well as three standby flights. Ended up driving home. DRIVING home. More when I recuperate.
If I told you where, you would know where Joe lives. Then you could stalk him. All I am says is that I had to drive more than 600 miles to get home. Thats 600miles in one night. Left at 7:00PM, at MOB by 5:30 AM. At work Saturday morning at 8:00AM. Sleep finally at 3:00PM. Do a mapquest search from Mobile Alabama to Texas that is 600 miles long, and you will figure out the city.
Texas is a big state... All I needed to know was the general area... too far for an evening BBQ without some planning, I'm afraid...
Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series is the bomb. Volumes 5, 6, & 7 are pretty large but I liked them. Oh, and glad you made it back safely, Barry. Another face-to-face Fugly encounter. Now, if you can get phatboy off his ass and to the coast, you may have another.
He has a deaf dog that is hilarious. His wife talks to it in sign language. It was strange to sit around the pool in the warm weather and not have bugs attack me. They left their back door open the whole time.. If you did that here, you would have a house full of mosquitoes and lizards.
The whole area amazed me how clean it was. Daphne is pretty clean, but Mobile is horrible. Even the big city of Dallas was clean.
I guess its pretty clean. If you drive through Arkansas right at the state line they seem to keep it really nice on the Texas side. Arkansas cannot seem to keep up or does not try so there is a really stark contrast. The concrete roads are not much smoother though.
Thats like the difference between Memphis and Nashville. Memphis is crap, Nashville is a nice city, clean and well taken care of. I think Memphis is too close to Arkansas, that maybe the one constant. Houston is kind of crappy. Not terrible, but I'd rather live in other parts of Tx if I was forced to move there.
The only thing that I saw in Dallas that really was bad was the toll roads. You can't get to anything without throwing dollars out the window. The locals can buy a pass, but the touristas get fleeced.
There is one of those that surrounds Houston, the Sam Houston toll road, the funny thing is, you can ride beside it, on a non-toll road for free. the only difference is you have a couple of red lights to deal with. Its amazing how flat TX is, huh? We were on the 9th floor of the student center, at A&M, for one of our classes, I swear I could see oklahoma. The trees were short as well. Of course on the fire field the locals kept saying "Keep hydrated, its over 100" I started laughing and they asked what was so funny, I said "this is like 70 back home, I am mad because I didnt bring any long sleeve shirts." It really is a different kind of heat. I did meet John Quincy Adams. I cant remember if he was the 3rd, or 4th, but he was in his mid to late 50s and a pretty nice guy (as far as gruff old firefighters go).
The furthest south I've been is Asheboro NC and I have never seen the ocean. The furthest north I've been is Toledo, OH. As you can tell, I'm not a traveler. I have been on a plane and a train but I didn't really go anywhere.
