]Here is a true one. My grandfather, a small town doctor, after getting back from (WW I which started in 1915) where he was one of the doctors loaned to the British army on the front lines walks into the post office where my grandmother worked having never before met her and to get her attention fires his pistol he kept on his hip into a waste basket. He finishes his business in the post office and she doesn't talk to him for a year an later marries her. Today they call the swat team.

Here's one from 1986 vs 2008. Cop pulls me and my friends over and finds beer in the car. Cops poors beer out asks me where I am going and tells me to drive home carefully.

Another 1986: Well known liquor store sells alcohol to us as 14 years through drive through window.

1970's: All the convenient stores sell "candy cigerettes" When you blow through them flour or somehting comes out that makes it look like smoke.

They had those cigarettes in the 80's. They were gum and I always requested them. The gum tasted like shit. The powder tasted like balloon dust.

They still sell candy cigarettes. Really little ones. At least I bought some a few years ago. They may have been there since the 70's.

Everything is so true. Things are complicated now.

I remember an episode of the Golden Girls (Mixed Blessing) in the 80's and the dialogue went something like this:

Rose: Can I ask a dumb question?

Dorothy: Better then anyone I know…

Rose: What color is black people’s dandruff?

Dorothy: Black people don't have dandruff, Rose. God thinks they suffered enough being black.

I honestly believe this section was cut out of later airings of the show as well as the DVD. I've seen the episode over and over and have never heard the dandruff question. I think after Dorothy makes her comment the doorbell rings or something and the original lines were cut. It was't intended to be racist, but I think they feared that someone would take it that way.

    Average cost of a house in 1957 - $2500.00
House had one toilet, no garage, no dishwasher, or laundry - maybe 1100 sq ft. It was wood frame, and could be picked up and moved if necessary.

According to the 1957 census, the average income for a family was $5,000. So it took two years wages to pay for it.

    Todays average income is $45,000(?)

The same house could be built for around $70,000, or 1.5 years salary.Probably less. So why was 1957 so much better?

I used to love watching 'all in the family' with my grandad. Archie Bunker would crack him up to no end. Talk about raunchy humor. That show kicked more booty and bruce lee. Now I think they have "PC'd" them to death. I think the show is about 5 minutes long now.

Sanford and Son is the same way. that show was hilarious. Not because it was racist, but because it made fun of stereotypes that just happened to be true. Does it still qualify as a stereotype if its true?

1957 was better than 2007 because you could get gas for a couple of cents a gallon, safe emissions were making sure the garage was open before you crank the car (if you didnt then it was just the filter on the gene pool catching you).

1957: you were found guilty or innocent of a crime ,you didn't get to blame it on your parents for not getting you that pony you wanted when you were 6
1957: carjacking was what you did when you had a flat

I couldn't deal with Sanford and Son. The theme music made me sad in my heart for some reason.

I always remember the episode of All in the Family where Archie had to get a blood transfusion from a black woman doctor. He was worried that her "shemaglobins" would get mixed up with his "hemoglobins" and cause problems.

That show hit on some big issues for it's time.

Sanford and Son was good I liked it when the cops would come over. I used to pull that same skit when I worked for the Sheriff Dept.

    Me: Brother, word!

My correction: ah or Word! brother.

Inmate: "Offica Joe you one crazy cracka man!"

Me: Straigt forward, I'm knowledgable of the time.

Inmate while rolling around on the floor: Straight up! I know what time it is! hahahaha Get it right.
