My brother spent some time living in Birmingham, Montgomery, as well as Destin Florida before moving back to Louisville. Louisville is the 17th largest city founded in 1778 on the Kentucky Indiana border (Ohio River). It is referred to as either the northernmost Southern city or the southernmost Northern city in the United States. Notable residents include Thomas Edison, Muhammad Ali (The Louisville Lip) Louisville is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in the country and has been ranked in the Top 10 safest large cities in the past 4 years with less than half the crime of cities of comparable size. Traffic is alot better than most other cities I have been to even much smaller ones like Lexington, KY where the traffic really sucks.

Louisville Metro has 122 city parks covering more than 14,000 acres (57 km²). Several of these parks were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed New York City's Central Park as well as parks, parkways, college campuses and public facilities in many U.S. locations. The parks are located right inside the city.

There are rednecks everywhere Dan Kentucky included. One thing about it the really backward ass Jerry Springer type all have in common. Most all of them are the welfare bum types.

I've been to quite a few states West from California and Oregon to East from Maryland to Florida. From the Great Lake states South to the Mexican boarder. It's hard for me to say anyone state has more than the rest except possibly Arkansas.

And while Alabama has them just like the rest, in my experience Alabama seems to have a lot less of that hokey pokey proud to be a hillbilly mentality you see in places like Tennessee and Kentucky.

 

Louisville is a long way from Appalachia and Tennesee for that matter. That's the point. Most of the rest of the state don't even consider it to be a part of Kentucky. Hence the Louisville-Kentucky football and basketball rivalries. I actually hate the Eastern Kentukians but like the Western Kentuckians where my parents are from but Louisville is really closer to being like Chicago minus the crime and some of the other crap that goes with the largest of cities than it is some hick place in Kentucky.

Louisville is broken into East, West, and South. More blue collar working class and in the South. Urban black in the West. I'm sure the East end of Louisville is above your average. For example Oldham county:

The area of Louisville I like best is probably the highlands. It is kind of the weird part of town where the skate punks and bars, artists, bands, and cherokee park are. There are side walks so you can just walk from one bar to the next. Kind of a younger part of town.
