    Whats wrong with e-machines?

I bought two for my office, and am thinking about another for my home. Everybody laughs at me for owning one. I don't see the problem.

The two I bought last year have never crashed. I upgraded the memory the day I got them, so they work fast. They NEVER give me problems, do exactly what I want, and were cheap.

I don't do movies or games on them. I don't need a flight simulator. I don't do heavy graphics. I don't store tons of useless crap on them. Can someone tell me why I should spend more $$$ just so people won't laugh at me?

Emachines is known for asking cheap manufacturers to break their prices, so they can build a cheap computer, cheaper. they also pre-install spyware so they make money from ad ware. they are the bottom of the cheap barrel. My friend bought a E machine pc, came with "speakers" and they were walkman headset speakers, glued into a carbord box. My mom bought a Emachine in 1998, I wouldnt let her open the box, I took it back to bestbuy, and got her a dell

they do whatever thay can to get the CHEAPEST parts. MOBO's for $5. they goto china and get the cheapest parts, then ask for seconds, and demand discounts. biggest defect is broken processors from over heating of processor coolers. If Barry ever opened adobe Photoshop, his shit boxes would break

Reminds me of the macs that used to catch fire, hehe.

Though, I wouldnt go cheap because it saves money, Ive done that once before and you end up paying in the long run, either from replacements or tech support(Well I dont need tech support, but some do)

Its surprising most named brand items are actually decent products too and they last. Sometimes you have to pay more for a quality product or spend some time for getting that same quality product cheaper at ebay or something.

Just for the record, I have two other "good" computers. One has a genuine Intel processor and was a custom build with all the bells and whistles. It give me constant problems.

I also have "store bought" Dells. They do OK, but not any better than the emachines.

    Dells and Emachines suck.
I would go Mac and get an apple or go with an HP or SONY, if you dont like Mac

Emachines are fine. Yes they use the least expensive parts out there, yes they cost less than most other manufactures. If you arent building a gaming PC you dont need a expensive box. Realistically for the price of 2 emachines you can buy 1 high end PC. To cruise porn and send emails you dont need a dual-quad core machine with 32GB of RAM, hell I got a 400mhz PII with 256mb RAM Dell that runs like a banshee on the web (Dell Optiplex GX1) Its all relative.

I personally stick with Dell. Why? 1) I get a discount through work 2) Their onsite service is great, no shipping the PC off to get it fixed and next day is standard 3) I use nothing but Dell at work and out of the 200 PCs and 14 Servers I may have 1 PC every couple of weeks give me a hardware issue. Those are mostly the USFF models that mount behind the LCD (purchased by previous IT) and seems to be a heat related issue (capacitors leak or pop).

My office is full of e-machines. They're no worse than the Microsuck O/S installed on them. For day-to-day simple processing, they get the job done and you can buy a wheelbarrow full for a few hundred bucks.

Stick with the e-machines, Barry. People are going to laugh at you anyway. You may as well save a few dollars.

I notice that the people that laugh at me usually do it throught the fence at my condo while I am basking in the hot tub. I guess I can take it.

Perhaps you should wear a bathing suit.

Phat and Major - I hate you both.

They don't make bathing suits and man bras in my size. So there.

I am officially determined to lose weight starting today. I helped a neighbor move yesterday, and I am so sore that I can't move. I literally had to roll out of bed and stretch on the floor so that I could stand up.

    Something's got to give.

I had an Emachine several years back. The amount of preinstalled crap buggered the imagination, it was a great, if moderately powered, little box once you got all that cleared off of it. But my new favorite, if ya wanna go bottom dollar, is Everex.

Still not gonna find a whole lotta beef in there, but I gotta admit I was impressed with the outta-the-box experience on the one we got for the office. Totally clean install, just a couple of light and useful utilities, no annoying extras, runs perfectly silent and hasn't had even a hiccup in the months we've been using it. Saved a couple hundred over the next cheapest major brand.

(Pssst...there are places where you can get Dell, HP, Sony...even Apple stickers, cheap as free! Just slap one of those on there to cover the Emachines logo and your worries are over! hoo hoo!)
