June Cleaver. She's still living. She just turned 92. I couldn't stand her in the Muppet Babies. I always hated her voice, then again, I never cared for the muppets except for Rowlf and only because he was a dog... he sure as hell wasn't a cute one. Speaking of blast from the past, I'm currently adding all of the Gimme a Break and Diff'rent Strokes to my television DVD collection. http://youtube.com/watch?v=rYtGoqH_MNg&feature=related Watch :25. Looks like a pedophile scene.
Shit... So, after replying, the damn video works... Go fig. I'll level with y'all... Even being a child of the 80's - I NEVER saw that show. Doesn't even look halfway enticing, based on the intro, either. I also never watched the Muppet Babies. What a way to transform a franchise into shitty children's shows... Jim Henson is probably shaking in his grave just like John Wayne did every time someone referred to Dukakis as "The Duke..."
I love Diff'rent Strokes, Gimme a Break, Kate and Allie and Facts of Life. I have all you can get of them on DVD. It's not that the shows are actually all that funny (although I did laugh at Gimme a Break last night) but they make me happy to watch them. It's weird to watch a show that you watched 27 years ago and actually remember some of the scenes. It's also a piece of 80's nostalgia and I'm all about that because those were some of the best years of my life. These shows were some of the first in tackling taboo subjects (in a watered down way) that's commonplace now in life and television. And the Muppet Babies were around when Henson was alive. I've actually never liked much of Henson's anything. I didn't like the muppets, I hated the Fraggles and was never into that 'fantasy land' kind of stuff. I watched a lot of sitcoms and crime dramas like Hart to Hart, Lady Blue and Hunter when I was a kid. This would make Henson roll over in his grave, no doubt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57ta7mkgrOU
