I have no heat in my car. The fan is not working. It has 5 settings and when you turn it to 5, it makes a little thud sound by the glovebox (which is where the blower motor and resistors are) but does nothing. About a month ago, I turned it to 5 and it totally quit working. I turned it off and on a few times and it started working again and has worked fine since until last night when I turned it on (I dunno if I cranked it or not) and nada. The compressor kicks on when you push the a/c button and the rear defrost work.

The fuses have been checked at least the ones that pertain to the HVAC blower motor and the main battery fuse for the HVAC blower and Ignition 3 Relay.

A sidenote, the stereo display is more dim on one side than the other. It wasn't like that before, but I have noticed that the instrument display for the heating and cooling has always been a little dim in some places.

Punching the knobs, cussing, kicking the car and throwing the keys in the driveway and leaving them out all night doesn't help.

Is this on the new car?

I am guessing this is on the old POS. I would check the fuses, first, the ones under the dash and also the big ones under the hood. If it was working and then just popped and quit working I would think fuse. The ones under the hood are responsible for more than just one thing, like the ones under the dash that might be labeled 'radio' and so on. The ones under the hood should be the big plug in kind. Looks like a little box with the prongs going straight down, probably about 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch.

My old car is not a pos. I have NEVER had a problem with it. This is the new car. Well, it's used but newer than the old one. :)

The fuses have been checked. Even with a little meter thingy.

I'm thinking it is the blower motor.

this is the aztec you just got?

    No warranty on it?

I would expect a blower motor to last at least 100k miles, have you checked online for any recall notices?

I found one for my ma-in-laws sport trac that the dealer wasnt telling her about (ecu flash) that got hers squared away.

The aztec is an 05 or so isnt it?

    <edit>
The only recalls I see on it are for the fuel system.

Well, I sorta fixed it. I hit the area where the blower/resistors are in and it started working again. But it will quit and I will have to hit it again. The stereo display is all lit up again. I'm thinking that there has to be some kind of short going on with a wire.

Maybe just a loose wire connector, or bare wire touching something metal.

You should have your own show.

Where I ask for help and then end up fixing it myself? :)

Blower motors do pull a bit of current and have their own fuse. The switch for blower motors can go bad on older models there the connector builds up resistance due to a bad connection if you remove the switch and see melted plastic by the connector then there you go. But typically in this scenario it will start going bad on the lower speeds and be fine wide open. The issue here is the switch is basically a voltage divider circuit and the high setting has the lowest resistance. ..... lowest resistance = highest current.. maybe I got that backwards and the high goes bad first.

Some blower motors use an inductor to controll the fan speed. I have acidentally touched one of these when it was hot I remember that well. You will to if you do the same. They get hot. This would be right next to the fan motor itself.

Google the make and model along with the symptom.

Yeah worst case scenario is there is a short and a wire heats up (like I mentioned with the switch) and melts the insulation off and shorts to more wires that then short to more wires.

if it is the Blower motor resister. Pay the extra <5.00 to get the AC/Delco part.

    Heater connector looks like this

    http://198.208.187.182/internet/PartImage.jsp?&acpartnbr=PT1346

and cost a stupid 30 plus bucks. But that is an indicator that it is an indemand part. Prolly a common break item cause some Auto workers union idiot does not fully connect them. If you find the connection and it is burnt, or has carbon looking deposits on it. It is likely your problem.

I saw the motor I think the price was 70 bucks and doubt it is the motor.

After my cd player was borrowed from my civic I put in a crappy factory tape deck that didnt connect right, seeing as the clip was broke in the borrowing. Instead of actually trying to fix it right I would just run over stuff if the right side speakers quit working..... :)

I have since added an awesome 2.00 ebay CD player, a NAXA, its probably worth .02, but you know if they steal it they will be sorry. really.

Did you glue razor blades to the backside of the player and coat them with strychnine crystals? :)

No it just really sucks and isnt worth stealing. :)

The car has an Alpine alarm on it, but of course when I bought the car the guy didnt have the FOBs, and it is so old, like form 95, that I cant even find one on EBAY. Oh well I will go to best buy and let their crack heads put one of the 100.00 ones on it. Then I will buy a decent head unit.

This one is a CD/MP3/WMA player, but it doesnt even have presets for the radio stations.... AWESOME!

And once it is installed try gluing razor blades to the backside of the player and coat them with strychnine crystals. :)

I wanted to put in a new double din receiver, but it'll fuck up the DVD player's sound and you will only be able to use the headphones with it. I guess it wouldn't be all that bad since it is never used anyway.

    This:

I take the factory out and it messes with the audio of the DVD system in the car. You can only listen to DVDs with the factory headphones and not through the car's speakers. I think Onstar will still work, but I don't care. It's not like I use it.

Thats a pretty nice Double-DIN there.

I dont know why they tie all that crap together. If you go to a stereo shop they should be able to hook it all up together. Maybe need an adapter or something. If they can integrate an aftermarket DVD into my Expeditions factory system I dont know why it would be such a PITA to hook a factory DVD to an aftermarket system. They should have a comparable harness or something. It would just be an Aux input. Who wants to ride around with other people watching movies anyways? I just did it so the kids could watch Shrek and I could listen to the radio on road trips.

Now they just annoy me. Or sleep.

Yeah, the only time I think it would be used is if my husband's daughter was in the car and it's not like I want to drive down the road blaring Hannah Montana.
