How many of you use a Mac? Everybody in my new job uses a Mac and I am considering switching. I'm looking for opinions.

Great for media I understand. Not hardly as robust on the networking side nor is it nearly as secure however no one wants to hack it anyways. Of course thats just my understanding never used one.

If my work used it I would not hesitate much to get a mac if just to be up to speed on them.

Go for the Mac. For work I have to use the Windows crap, in private a Macintosh. This is worlds apart. The Mac is stabile in every way, not prone to virus attacks as there are no viruses for (against) the Mac on the web. The Mac doesn't let you down with incomprehensible alerts and malfunctions. You switch it on and it just works well. I'd love to have a Mac for work, too.

There is a hacked Tiger OS for VM Player. You know, so you can put it on a PC and run the Mac OS. It's pretty sweet.

I havent touched a Mac since I was a tech at CompUSA (7 years ago).....

Do DOC and XLS files transfer between PC and MAC? Everyone I work with is on PC with XP. Would I be on a island with a Mac?

The Mac uses "Word for Macintosh" and "Excel for Macintosh". It will not be much of an adjustment to you.

On a Mac you can open practically everything because the Mac recognizes things. Microshit doesn't.

Macintosh is serious equipment for pros. You will enjoy the change.

Nah, I got to cruise the big 15 passenger van deal. Pretty pimp. I would go home, park it in the backyard, and then take a nap. :)

I used to drive to Charleston, Savannah, Dublin(GA) in that stupid van. So If I got back early, I would hit the house.

When my old Mac finally became completely obsolete a few years ago I got a Windows machine. I figured I would adjust and stop hating it, eventually. I didn't. I still hate it. HATE HATE HATE. When I switched from Amiga to Mac initially I bitched about a few things for a couple of months (Amigas being decidedly superior, of course) but then I got used to it and it was smooth sailing. Not so with the switch to Windows. It's been almost four years and every single fucking day my computer does something stupid that I hate. HATE HATE HATE. XP Pro is marginally less offensive than XP Home, but it's still stupid and fucked up, and apparently most Windows application programmers are retards and half the programs conflict with the other half, or sometimes with themselves, or with Windows. I have three Windows machines now because I needed a cheap computer for my employee and then I needed a cheap laptop for my studio and for working while I travel. I wish I had never embarked on this slippery slope to Windows Hell.

My hate has no bounds, and I cannot wait until the day I pay off my medical bills so I can afford to buy a new computer (a Mac, OF COURSE) and throw this fucking piece of shit into a dumpster where it belongs.

Oh, and you can network a Mac with Windows computers flawlessly. The Mac recognizes all Windows files and can write files that even retarded fucking Windows machines like mine can read.

I'm to lazy to look up and catalogue the specifics but it has I believe to do with the files security. The Authentication process and mail client configuration. Compromises are made to accommodate the Macs that these whacky professors at universities use. Then if those compromises are exploited then more ammo for the Window haters. It's like giving them the gun to shoot you with.

My dilemma, General, is that the files might not be compatible both ways. Hypothetically, if my Mac reads someone else's PC PowerPoint show and I edit it, could I send it back? I.E. could it retain the original format if I so chose? I give a lot of briefings and submit reports in the Miscrosuck environment. Just wondering how I could interact with others in a Windows XP world.

Don't fight it and just use Microsoft everything.

I know Bill Gates needs the money, but I'm interested in more Mac knowledge.

Most office apps available on the MAC should be backards compatible. You may, or may not, have to save it in a windows format. I dont use them, but I too have a hunger for knowledge about the quirky little computers that the real nerds like to use. By quirky I mean, 'why do I have to drag the cd to the 'trash can' for it to eject?' :)

At ease, Major! No problems with the mentioned procedure. None at all.

I'm starting to feel the Mac love. I'm so used to the MS abuse, I don't know anything else. I'm interested to test drive one. Maybe the crashes to which I'm accustomed aren't a necessary evil after all.
