Saw it tonight. Excellent film. The cinematography was excellent, the story was good, and it wasnt all happy feely USA is no.1 and all. It did point out a lot of issues and made very valid points. I'm not siskel and ebert, but I liked it. The action was good. Even though I think the ending could have been better(no spoiler for those of you who want to go see it). I will go into those further once it's been out for a while and everyone has had a chance to download it/go pay and see it you cheap fuckers. I would really like Nursey to see it so I can see what her take is on it, but that is just cause I am interested to see how it apeals to her, with her background.
Is that the same as a 6 (or so)-disc miniseries of the same name? I've got a copy but never watched it...
I dont know, I know it has Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, the fat kid from 'Stand by Me', and the guy that plays a CIA/FBI agent in every movie. I think it was well done and shows some of the flaws in the handling of issues in the middle east. There is a really good history lesson in the very beginning of the movie, not sure how accurate it is, but it seems to hit the nail on the head. It's worth the money to see it on the big screen.
I don't need to see it. It's a Hollywood production. And here is part of a review: "Brazen in its “all Muslims are evil” philosophy and unrepentant in showing the carnage that results from such a simplified stance, The Kingdom is like a James Cameron/Arnold Schwarzenegger collaboration where neither party is participating. It’s manipulative, manic, and just a tad manufactured. It raises more issues than it ever wants to address, and boils all Middle Eastern culture down to a series of backwards belief systems. Granted, as in all stereotyping, there are snippets of truth here and there, and when dealing with a crime that is merely mimicking actual events that have played out before, truth is a defense to such defamatory stances. But what’s most fascinating about The Kingdom is how readily we buy into the jingoism, and how satisfying it is to see our brave men and women kick some true believer butt." "Yet The Kingdom is such a strong entertainment, such a substantial us vs. them example of wish fulfillment that it’s easy to ignore the many mixed messages. Basically, the film is a brutal Wild West shoot ‘em up ported over to the Middle East and given a glossy, post-9/11 reading. It will invigorate the most dormant sense of citizenship, and have you cheering in places that should give you pause." "There is no excusing the abominations visited on the peaceful peoples of the world by religious-based vigilantes, especially when their target is so random and their rationale so suspect. But The Kingdom wants to correct that corollary by making everyone evil – except the USA, that is. " link Sounds really shit.
I think that the review was shit. If that's what that person thought of the movie the proably had their mind made up before they even went and saw it. I didnt see it as 'us vs. them', if anything it showed that you cant lump every person of arabian descent in as a terrorist. I trhink it showed the futility of the whole situation. But thanks for not watching it and forumulating your opinion from an outside review.
I don't watch good films, nevermind some cliched, mainstream Hollywood pap. And that review sounded pretty convincing due to the level of intelligence that it reveals. I might just watch it sometime to see if i agree.
Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner and fucking Jason Bateman are in it. That alone is reason NOT to watch it.
So if a person uses thesaurus dot com to make themselves sound intelligent you believe what they say? The fact that it 'shows america as never doing wrong' makes me wonder if the person who wrote the review even watched the movie. I think they actually wrote the review after watching the trailer, and not the entire film. The main objective of the film pushed more towards showing that all muslims werent evil. It showed Muslim on Muslim violence for what it was. It also shows, much like vietnam, there isnt going to be a 'winner'.
Why you gotta go hatin' on Jason Bateman. He was in Teen Wolf 2!! Plus, I like "Arrested Development." I liked Jennifer Garner before she got Afflecked and Jamie Foxx is aight.
Fair point. Look, if i ever feel bored enough to watch some formulaic, Hollywood crap it'll be first on my list, alright?
