"The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth..." If we're still on the subject of awesome, visceral, mind boggling movies, I also recommend Requiem For A Dream.
I saw "Jacobs Ladder" twice I thought the director did a great job of portraying the disconnected and chaotic perspective of the individual. The acting was ok the directing great. I will try to keep an eye out for "Requiem For A Dream"
Hell yes, Dark City is also good for that reason. In Requiem she does a bit of a full frontal too which is always nice.
It's about addiction... (not exactly an original idea) and it tries to be over-the-top. It's a movie (like Natural Born Killers) that I would never want to watch again. I don't like movies that just try to be disgusting and use weird cinematography to make it 'edgy'. I'd rather watch Trainspotting for the bazillionith time and I'm not really even a fan of that movie.
You know I can picture that truely is not exactly edgy. But like Jackie Brown (was that the name) and other movies like that there the time line is all broken of and shifted. It actually keeps me more interested on my toes so to speak trying to follow. So long as it does not go over board. But as for all the wird angles and perspectives. That shit gets annoying.
Has anyone seen Mulholland Drive? I haven't made myself watch it but I've heard it's too trippy even for the sake of being trippy. David Lynch has a penchant for such. Good Naomi Watts lesbo scene, though.
I always get that confused with Laurel Canyon for some reason. I have seen parts of Laurel Canyon, but haven't seen Mulholland Drive.
I like those king of movies. I'd say I'll keep an eye out for it next time I'm at the movie store. But everytime I go in that place I never remember the movie I was wanting to see. Unless there is a big sign or poster and it is in the new release section or something like that then it's not available anyways.
That was a reply to Mulholland Drive BTW. Not sure I'd watch Spanking the Monkey. I see that all the time in an intimate sort of way.
