They are still ranked above Alabama (who hasn't been ranked since 2005) and Kentucky is now ranked essentially the same as Alabama the double wide state.
Combined Football National Championships for Louisville and Kentucky = O Alabama has won 3 times as many bowls as Kentucky has even played in. Give up trying to make a Kentucky team anything more than a football wannabe. Stick with basketball, where Kentucky has earned a measure of respect in that non contact short pants like soccer is for sissies sport.

It’s Louisville vs. Kentucky. Or, if you prefer, it’s Kentucky vs. Louisville. It’s a big game. It’s not even basketball season. And there’s even one doozy of a subplot. Brian Brohm, the Louisville quarterback, vs. Andre’ Woodson, the Kentucky quarterback. Which brings us to a question from Bill Stein of Oceanside, Calif. Bill asks: Is Louisville-Kentucky really the matchup of the top two QB prospects in next year’s NFL draft? We’ve seen Brian Brohm and know what he can do. What’s so special about the Wildcats’ Andre’ Woodson? Well, Bill, the NFL draft obviously is eons away. First-round fortunes can be altered with the blink of an eye — or a great workout — so it’s premature to speculate. But you might be right. Even if you’re not right on the mark, you’re awfully close. Brohm and Woodson certainly look like first-rounders. They are No. 1 and No. 2, according to some of the draftniks who already are rating players. And their presence makes for an incredibly entertaining backdrop to the game, which has been dominated recently by Louisville. Things changed last season — drastically. When Louisville stormed past Kentucky 59-28 in last season’s opener, the future of Wildcats coach Rich Brooks looked especially cloudy and the program seemed to be spinning its wheels. What a difference a few months made. Kentucky hung in there with Brooks. The Wildcats improved gradually. And before you knew it, the Wildcats had a feel-good 8-5 season, capped by a 28-20 win against Clemson in the Music City Bowl. Woodson was the biggest reason for that resurgence. He has saved the very best for last. Watch him for a while, and those skills will grow on you. Brohm, meanwhile, entered college as much more of a finished product, having been raised in a family of quarterbacks. Brohm was a child prodigy, a Sports Illustrated cover boy as a high-schooler and a guy who could’ve played almost anywhere. He chose hometown Louisville over Notre Dame and Tennessee — a foolish decision, sniffed some of the locals. But Brohm’s dreams came true. He guided last season’s Cardinals into an Orange Bowl victory and he nixed early entry to the NFL for a shot at a national title. That might be a long-shot goal, but certainly Louisville is in the running for another Big East title. Brohm vs. Woodson. Louisville vs. Kentucky. With the Wildcats on the upswing, this Bluegrass Battle is a real rivalry again, the most anticipated game since the modern series was restored in 1994, one that is worth some national attention.
