    Hating Bono, again.

Hatred of the endlessly self-aggrandising Bono and his band of merry men has been a longstanding theme here. Thankfully, other people are catching on.

It seems that the "Red" campaign, launched by Bono to purge Africa of disease while making little mention of condoms, or anything else that might upset record-buying catholics, has, after all, been more about promoting Bono and his famous mates than raising cash for Africa.

Advertising Age calculates that around $100million has been spent blanketing billboards and magazines with images of Bono and other "celebrities", while the total sum raised for Africa is $18million.

    Just to be clear...

    * Total spent on making Bono more famous = $100million.
    * Total spent on drugs for Africans = $18million.

Bono and U2 performed on Amnesty's Conspiracy Of Hope tour of the United States in 1986 alongside Sting.

Does anyone remember the big stink when Bono and his U2 band mates moved their publishing company from Ireland to the Netherlands so they could pay half the Irish rate of taxes on their royalties?

Bono, from what I have read, wants to end world hunger and poverty but U2, charges $150 + for prime tickets to their concerts. (That's a far cry from the "free" concerts way back when.) U2 racked up $389 million in gross ticket receipts, making Vertigo (2005/2006) the second-most lucrative tour of all time, according to Billboard magazine. The band is estimated to have earned more than $1.1 billion in its 25-year history.

He wants to make a big deal about rich countries not helping poor old AIDS-stricken Africa, but he spent $15 million on an apartment in Manhattan.

    And get this:

Bono, the U2 frontman and former editor of The Independent, is embroiled in a dispute with several other residents of the stunning San Remo Towers block, overlooking Central Park. He has complained that smoke from their chimneys is drifting into his $15m ([pound]7.5m) penthouse, home to his wife Ali Hewson, left, and four children.

He's breathing NY air and is offended by the smoke from someone's chimney? Jesus. Maybe he shouldn't have been so cheap and forked out 25 million for a smoke-free pad. Or maybe he should go live in Africa and dye his hair in cow piss and blow into cow's cunts to get them to nurse their young? (all true, I watched a documentary recently) You know, get a feel for the tough life that he is trying so publically to eradicate.

I hate rich people who want to help the poor.

Bono's empire encompasses real estate, private-equity investments, a hotel, a clothing line and a chain of restaurants.

Along with fellow band members, he also owns a stake in 15 companies and trusts, including concert-booking agencies, record production firms and trusts that are mostly registered in Ireland. U2 was one of the first successful bands in the world to have obtained all rights to its own music.

In addition, Bono shares three homes with his wife and four children, including a house near Nice in the south of France, a duplex apartment overlooking New York's Central Park that he bought from Apple Inc.'s Steve Jobs, and a gated estate in Killiney, 10 miles south of Dublin, with a panoramic view of the Irish Sea.

    I found this ironic:

Bono's foray into private equity, via Menlo Park, California-based Elevation Partners LP, has clashed with his ideals at times.

Elevation's first investment was a stake in two computer game companies, Edmonton, Canada-based BioWare Corp. and Los Angeles-based Pandemic Studios LLC. BioWare makes a war game called ``Destroy All Humans 2.'' Pandemic's catalog includes a war game called ``Mercenaries 2: World in Flames,'' depicting a mercenary invasion of Venezuela.

you know, it just might be that this is the first time that i've actually read all of something you've posted, nursey - and followed the links to read more.

and, shazaam that you proved me right about something: king sting, his stingdom and queen trudy.

aside from that, have there been any celebrities that 'raise money and awareness' without benefiting themselves? or anyone for that matter? take the local businessman who 'does good' primarily because he believes in the law of return.

this is why i have such a problem with "check writing" for charity.. take tithing for instance: first off i don't believe that god really prefers us to give 10% to the church directly. and i don't know how i feel about the tax benefits of it either. i whole-heartedly believe that i am serving the greater good best when the kids and i take a meal to a hungry person, or when i help pay the medical bills of one of my mother's friends. does the church need to pay its power bill? sure, but we're here to help each other and that does not have to take place in a brilliantly designed, rich white-man's church with an organ that cost tens of thousands of dollars. we're missing the point!

see, now i've gone off on an rage-induced tangent that began with the family i married into. i apologize for airing it here. one of my clients died this week. maybe i've mentioned her here, i can't remember. she was the epitomy of grace and goodwill. she single-handedly changed the perception of the mentally disabled in our city. and my inlaws think i should send flowers because that is the customary thing to do. i have other plans to honor her memory.

i can't even fathom numbers like this. statements like this make me want to be a fly on the wall near those 'pearly' gates. maybe he is in hell, you know? maybe he who has everything leads a very empty existance, and maybe this is absolute purgatory for them both. goes back to the whole 'attachment' and 'unattachment' thing. bono is obviously, very attached.

but i have no response to the whole cow nursing thing.

    Disgusting wasn't it?

I don't think that they would know what to do with that money if they had it. They'd ask for cows instead. That is their currency. They trade cattle for wives.

the whole showering-in-cow-urine thing was a little odd, but i don't think it warranted some of those comments at the bottom of the page. goes back to the whole customs thing.

normal is what you grow up with.

Don't worry. I mean, if i was married to one of Barry's clan, i'd probably be in jail for attempted murder.

And if that doesn't work, i've learned a crushed coke can can be used to explain away anything.

Bait me with two posts in a row did you?

Pimp is probably off chasing some fairskinned schoolboy these days, so I guess you just need some attention from a man that understands your complex needs.

Anyway, go get that Coke can, and I'll PM you the instructions for the rest.
