As long as we're asking opinions, I'm trying to decide which to go with: Roadrunner: 7Mbps down (max), 512k up, 29.99/mo (6 mo, then it goes to 44.95) Earthlink Cable: 5 or 6Mbps down (the same page claims two different speeds in the same package), ? up, 29.99/mo (6 mo, then goes up to $41.95) Anyone ever compared the two services?
I would check the uplink. Most will only give you 384k, if they are saying 512 that is pretty decent for plain home service. The earthlink seems kinda hokey, why dont they advertise the upload speed? Plus you need to test them once it's in place, and periodically afterwards.
Yeah, it's 384k up, but I found a discount. It'll end up being $27.99/mo (6 mo), 39.99/mo afterwards. no setup fee or charge for equipment. If I went through Roadrunner, I'd have to pay $32 for the install. Time Warner cable provides the cable for both Earthlink and RR, so I figure there's probably not going to be that much of a difference in the service. Should be up and running sometime next week.
If you were in the 'dirty dirty' you could get Bellsouth Fast Access DSL, Lite with over 1MB down, and 384k up for around 19.99 a month. The 'high speed' 6mb version is only 39.99, but the upload still doesnt get up to 500k. They dont charge for the dsl modem, and they just ship it to you. With the filters and all. Comcast right now, connecting to a server in Miami, I get DL speed of 3.6mb, and upload around 350k that is with my laptop, my wifes laptop, and the 360 all being online at the same time.
Oh shit - I just realized this... Online gaming! Finally, I can blow the dust out of my lonely link ports on my home consoles, and even use that free year of Xbox Live the radio station sent me. I completely fucking forgot about this aspect of broadband until this point. Thanks, PB! Damn, now I have to look for a DreamCast Broadband modem, too... :-\
You know this is sad but I have not done any online gaming since moving to Texas. Now I have FIOS fiber to the house and some stupid fast 15mb down 5mb up. For a cheap 40 something. All that bandwidth wasted. And Lomo if you get the means I recomend fiber My Brother in Richardson just got on Fiber with Bellsouth so Verizon apparently does not have all the market share. But it is sweet.
You want to talk about sad - I haven't done any online gaming since the original Diablo PC game. As for your internet hookup - When the fuck is that going to be available down here?!?
No shit. 15MB down, and 5MB up? What company would have a T-1 anymore. I think we are paying close to 750.00 a month for a shadowed T-1 at only 1.54MB up and down.
I dabbled in SWAT 4 on the PC online but haven't done much since the first Ghost Recon. I do a bit of X360 online. Joe, get yourself a 360 and we'll fire up Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. phatboy won't play with me :'(
I was for a while there pretty good with a mouse and a keyboard playing pc games. And tried playing my nephew on his X-Box holy shit I was terrible he kicked my ass all over the place.
If I told you once, I told you a thousand times, www.dumpstersluts.com Geez Go to Porn Forum, then Amatuer Pics. They must scan photobucket and a bunch of other sites to get that stuff. It is pretty good. And no one is being oppressed.
