So we have all heard about the recent events in japan, and there is no denying it that it's a god damned tragedy. The thing that got me today was listening to the blabber that came out of my work mates mouths. Such classic one liners as, "I heard the Pokemon creator died." and "I was looking forward to an anime release this month." And their fake worries. It was then I sort of realized that these people really don't care for people, they care for people that have an impact on something that they love. The way to judge a man's character is to see how he treats someone that is of absolute no worth to him, and to say that I didn't hear half as much fuss about Haiti goes to show how shallow a lot of people are when it comes to charity and respect for their fellow man.

No joke. This is the worst thing to happen to Japan since Hiroshima and Nagasaki. My heart goes out to the unfortunate folks whom have rost their homes, work, and relatives...

Yea, those people are tools. Yes, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, how many times did the Bitish try to get the Indians property back? Then we helped them out. Japan didn't deserve this no more than we deserved the SF Quake of 06 or whatever (1906). Shit happens and how we react is what makes us human, IE HUMANITY.

I don't care for the fact that we will send millions upon millions of dollars on aide for them (they sent a million to us for Katrina). It's the same for Thailand and Haiti. We are in debt and broke at home, but we can fork over millions (you ever fill up an Aircraft Carrier)on goods and services in another country but we scrapped NASA, well at least the shuttle program.

Yeah Japan more than paid for pearl harbor. Where did you pull all those comments from anyways. Total morons.... something not right.

Japan is WAY WAY in debt and is the second biggest holder of US bonds. Imagine they cash in to pay got their rebuilding? This then causes the value of the dollar to drop drastically as Tim Geither [sp] cranks up the money printing machines?

Could cause a ...bond market crash? If other countries see it about to happen and EVERYONE jumps to unload their bonds all at once and convert to something else.

I'm sure Obama is breathing a huge sigh of relief. He can now blame his failures on Japan. You watch it will happen. "We were on our way to a recovery till this" "In these times we need to stick behind our leader" .

Why is there no looting in Japan?

Why is there no looting in Japan?

    http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/edwest/100079703/why-is-there-no-looting-in-japan/

The landscape of parts of Japan looks like the aftermath of World War Two; no industrialized country since then has suffered such a death toll. The one tiny, tiny consolation is the extent to which it shows how humanity can rally round in times of adversity, with heroic British rescue teams joining colleagues from the US and elsewhere to fly out.

And solidarity seems especially strong in Japan itself. Perhaps even more impressive than Japan’s technological power is its social strength, with supermarkets cutting prices and vending machine owners giving out free drinks as people work together to survive. Most noticeably of all, there has been no looting, and I’m not the only one curious about this.

This is quite unusual among human cultures, and it’s unlikely it would be the case in Britain. During the 2007 floods in the West Country abandoned cars were broken into and free packs of bottled water were stolen. There was looting in Chile after the earthquake last year – so much so that troops were sent in; in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina saw looting on a shocking scale.

Why do some cultures react to disaster by reverting to everyone for himself, but others – especially the Japanese – display altruism even in adversity?

Don't fuck with America? Some day something massive will happen there, and the Muslims will be saying "don't fuck with Osama". America will be crying foul, and whining to anyone who will listen for 30 seconds. Wake up, knob jockey. It's a tragedy, where ever it happens. Next you'll say Queensland deserved all these floods. My mother deserved to have her house washed away?

From what I've read and heard we are next. It looks like that plate that is causing all the problems (Japan, Chile, New Zealand) has had a major incident on every corner except the one that is on the western seaboard of the united states. I'm guessing it's the pacific plate that is causing all the problems. Sorry to hear about your moms house.

Those facebook comments made me sick. How is a deep-sea earthquake and the ensuing tsunami payback for an attack that took place 70+years ago?
Most of those comments were religious as well. I knew that the fundies would start their rapture porn with the disaster. Somehow god took 70 years to payback for Pearl Harbor? How about the radiation plume making its way to America's west coast? Is god also hitting the US with a vengeance? Dumbass fundies.

The facebook picture came from here:

    http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/

The guy is a left wing nut. The type who hates America and hopes to foment hatred for America around the world. I would not believe any propaganda he spews, my guess is he is not very honest. These type of people are just they way and something suspicious about the picture. Did anyone try to track down the names and match them with actual face book posts.

I did say HOUSE. This is not America. We don't have entire states living in caravans like America does.

    You ever see "District 9?"

The first time I saw the flick, I was amazed - I thought, "Wow, they really went all out for stages, didn't they?"

Funny thing, though... It wasn't shot in a stage. People live like that.

I do apologise. I'm sure your mom's prefab was far classier than a trailer.
