hey, gurus.. just bought a new house with direct sat. on top.

which would you choose.. dish or direct? does it make a difference that the direct dish is already on the roof and pointed the right way? have any of you tried direct's high speed? (the one i currently use through my cable is shit.)

my dad has dish, that's what i'm used to and what i was leaning towards. but then i saw that direct has the internet option.

then i guess later we'll get into the how in the hell am i going to fix the yard discussion
    thx

I have direct a TV Tivo receiver and 4 boxes. You can borrow it forever.
    We can't use it here.

both are equally as shitty as the other, dish network has more religious rip-off channels

I have Direct. The cable where I used to live was hosed so I went with satellite. I haven't had Dish but a friend did and ended up swapping for Direct (due to some customer service issues, I think.) I have the Directv HD package (which is sweet). It seems the two services provide the same channels, PPV, etc. I don't know about the religious rip-off channels that so offend Dwaine because I only watch a few channels myself. I have kids and it's great to have two Disneys, two Nickelodeons, a Cartoon Network [adult swim], and such on 24/7. Having the kids zone out to cartoons is muich easier than parenting ;D

I haven't looked much into the hi-speed internet via Direct except to discover that it's expensive compared to phone DSL or cable.

So does it come with ESPN HD standard? Comcast offers it here, but there is a monthly charge for it, sucks, but I can watch all the other channels HD, so as long as the SEC has CBS I can get it in HD, just the Saturday Night Games that throw me off.

i don't know, i don't think it's that much more. right now we're at $80/mo thru comcast w internet and it hardly ever works.

their 'plus HD' pkg is $59.99/12 mos w 195 channels including locals and DVR. if you add the net it's $79.99 - $89.99/mo total. and yes, darling, that includes ESPN HD - as well as ESPN2 HD

so then what would you suggest? comcast is shit. and internet via comcast is horrible.

    thanks for the offer.

You get the ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS HD via the off-air antenna. The Direct HD package includes ESPN-HD, ESPN2-HD, TNT, HDNet, HDNet Movies, Discovery HD, maybe a couple others. My HDTV is a monitor only so I need the HD box for a tuner but I do like the ESPNs around football season.

I thought HD was a bunch of BS, till I got the 42" LCD TV. I wont watch anything regular if it is offered in HD.

Word. If I come home and my wife is watching regular network TV, I have to "channel up" to the "-1" if you know what I'm saying.
