Interesting to note that the United-States rank 19th in the world for corruption (it's a descending scale, so it means 19th with the least).
I quote: "The United States, which was in 19th place compared with 18th last year, remained stable despite Transparency's concerns over a lack of government oversight of the financial sector."
These results come from polls based on surveys of businesses and experts. It seems to make the world a little uncomfortable that there is a call for abolishment of federal oversight in the financial sectors of the US. People or Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index might see it as more tempting to accept bribes or to "sell" jobs if there is no one watching to see that it doesn't happen.
    Canada ranks 10th.

On a good note: "Bangladesh, Belarus, Guatemala, Lithuania, Poland and Syria were among the countries that improved the most."

The world's ten most corrupt countries:

    1. Somalia

    2. Afghanistan

    3. Myanmar

    4. Sudan

    5. Iraq

    6. Chad

    7. Uzbekistan

    8. Turkmenistan

    9. Iran

    Haiti

The world's ten least corrupt countries:

    1. New Zealand

    2. Denmark

    3. Singapore

    4. Sweden

    5. Switzerland

    6. Finland

    7. Netherlands

    8. Australia

    9. Canada

    10. Iceland

Interesting food for thought to be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm not sure where America belongs in reality on the index but I would think it should have dropped several places since this time last year.

Who's reality? There is the reality that please us and the reality that displease us. Often it's the same, but we like to divide it up so we can turn our backs to problems rather than facing the fact that we are indeed wrong. Burying one's head in the sand is a good temporary fix but eventually one chokes from it. You like to think that the US is the greatest country in the world and no one can blame you for it but it casts a veil over your critical thoughts. You can't fix shit if you keep blaming the other party instead of taking a good hard look at what your party also did wrong. Nobody's perfect, not even conservatives. Corruption is a problem and has to be dealt with. Not to be casted into a "fictional reality", I betcha anything that you looked for another poll that put the US higher on the scale didn't you? So who's reality does this scale belongs to?

Open your eyes I have dogged Bush and the Republicans for their liberal spending habits and not blocking the CRA regulations that caused the mortgage crisis.

    And I still do.

I was pretty open about McCain being a really poor choice for a candidate basically calling him a RINO.

You need to go back and look at my posts again bro. Besides I just pointed out that America should have fallen a couple notches on the corruption index if this "index" were a reliable source. That is pretty damn critical of my country I would think.

Yeah but you blame the dems for it. You're only critical of one factor in the equation.

Well I'm just saying that I HAVE been critical of my country and for good reason. I have attacked my own party and for VERY good reason. Once again Olympia Snowe, Arlen Specter, Susan Collins as well as to a great extent John McCain are a BIG part of the problem with Republicans.

I personally do not see eye to eye with many of the moron RINO's I think they should be booted out on their ass out of the party.

That country is going downhill and fast and there is blame to be had with the limp wrist pantie waste RINO's, direct blame for allowing our country to slide further down the slippery slope of Socialism.

Ouch! Well at least it's coming out. Do you really think that cops are that bad in your country? We've all seen movies with corrupt cops and shit but I don't think it's headed that way. Transparency is greater in north-america (except mexico) than russia. By the way I hate Putin's guts.

Well I think the cops in a America are for the most part great people but its the bureaucracy. The liberal judges that do not follow the rule of law and disregard the Constitution. A corrupt media that enables lawlessness and corruption in government.

Trying KSM in a civilian court in total disregard of the established rules. All for political purposes is a great example. This puts national security at risk and enables our enemies while handcuffing our own military. And why? There is no logical reason why except for a dog and pony show so the media can have ammo to attack a political counterpart.

I hate Putin as well as Obama equally by the way.

If either of you have ever watched a show called "The Wire" on HBO, it pretty much describes how both parties are corrupt in their practices.

It takes place in Baltimore. A place I know well. If you've ever been there, you know the show is fairly accurate (With the exception of the Serial Killer storyline. Haven't had one of those in a long time.)

There is also a write-up in Maxim magazine about a former cop turned pot-smoker. He explains the corruption in the Texas police force when it comes to narcotics.

You mean "Bird on a Wire" with Goldie Hawn.

I need to post that in the "80's Crushes" thread.

I don't know which one drove me crazier that one or "Foul Play"
