I just had to re-boot for a similar problem. Weird.

My problem is that this computer completely quit working a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be revived with the recovery disks, supposedly because the hard drive had an unrecoverable error. I just copied my backed-up files to the other office computer and forgot about it, until I decided to upgrade my other computer to XP Pro (because XP Home sucks even worse) and then said to myself, "Hey, maybe if I install XP Pro on it, it will come back to life without all the trouble of getting a new hard drive?" So I did, and it did. But there's nothing to roll back to.
