If it's any good I'd go and see it.

The Constant Gardener is an adequate film, competently put together, but one that never reaches any kind of emotional high point.
Dealing, as it does, with themes as broad and wide ranging as romance, gender stereotypes, corporate imperialism and third-world poverty, this lack of punch is really unforgivable.
The problem with it is obvious early: an opening montage sequence that runs for around 5 minutes, which is meant to set the scene but which instead confuses. It's cleverly edited and beautifully shot, but in the process the storyline and with it the audience, are left to fend for themselves.
Ralph Fiennes, an often great actor, is flat and uninspiring in the title role. And while Rachel Weisz performs brilliantly, it's not enough to lift this film out of its emotional hollow.
I'd give it a 5/10.
