My three Great Aunts were living in the city at the time..one of them had one of her windows broken, and she lived miles away..we couldn't find one of the aunts, my Aunt Bettye, and were very worried about her..I was living in Cali at the time...turned out she did work for the red cross, and ended up volunteering to get names of missing and family members together, etc..found her own name on a list of missing and called to say she was okay and that's how we found out, bless her heart. She died two years ago, and I have her dog, Sammy...she was my favorite Aunt, and a WAC during WWII.

there are times when I really like living in a small town..where trials and tragedies bring people together...first time I saw that was the first winter here when there was a very bad ice storm, the 'holiday storm' of 2000/01...no power for weeks, but everyone helped each other out, and instances where you saw the worst of people were rare...

We seem to make up for it in all other areas. Per Capita income, quality of life, infant mortality, access to leisure activiites, cheap Mexican labor, fast internet access, dental plans, world class healthcare, largest private ownership of boats, planes and automobiles, etc.

And for a luck few, the equipment measures up too.

My daughter is able to im her bf in Iraq now, and they talked about this shit, and I was mad at her for doing it, but she says he was glad because it took his mind off the shit there for a while and gave him someone to be mad at here. Funny how when my daughter made that post for me on her own at military.com and some thought that I had made her up or was posting in her name you didn't say shit otherwise, but had to have known better than that.
