chasing the buzz
it often brings a smile to my face when i study the active constituents of the majority of triptamines and phenycyclamides and note that they are all just complex organic hydrocarbons, and are surprisingly close in composition to fossil fuels....
which is probably why i had my strongest most memorable buzz from huffing petrol in a forest while out camping when i was 14...
memorable due to an alarming turn of events....

my photon was lonely without it's shell.. so it halted it's quantum flux state to acquire a direction and become a simple proton, that positively charged particle then attracted 2 neutrons to become a nucleus... once my soul had acquired attraction, it set out to become the centre of it's own universe.....
it made a good start.... almost immediately it attracted a good healthy electron.... but it realised it's error once it had set the electrically charged atomic particle into it's own steady orbit.....
this coincided with my losing consciousness
unfortunately it had the bad fortune of adopting a dark electron as it's first particle... which had the undesirable effect of consigning the ambitious soul/universe to an existence as dark matter... never again allowed to interact on any level with particles of matter from the universe it had inhabited only fifteen minutes previously...
i fell to the ground, dropping the canister and spilling petrol all over my chin
my soul had one chance to rectify this tragic turn of events... for the process to become permanent, a link must be forged between the nucleus and the primary electron, this happens when the juvenile atom attracts a secondary first layer electron and the bonds become solid.... a process only reversible by nuclear fission...
at this time i rolled face-upwards.. as i did so, an ember from the campfire drifted towards my face igniting the slick of fuel on my chin....
before the first electron layer became complete, my soul/proton/photon induced a violent spin, illegally touching on other levels of spin that shouldn't have been possible after shedding it's flux state and becoming [real].....
the conscious particle that is my essence was able to, during it's frantic mimicry of a quark in flux state, trick the neutrons and electrons that it had tentatively bonded to, into thinking it didn't exist in their universe, and they wandered off to find another wandering soul/charged particle to join the dark side
as this was happening, my apparently unconscious prone body was spinning around in the dirt and pine cones of the forest floor putting out the unfortunate occurence of combustion that was trying to uglify my beautiful features
my soul, free now of the threat of an existence as a particle of the dark side, was overjoyed, and wisely decided to re-inhabit and take control of it's rightful host vessel,
i started to come round
and never experiment with forging a different existence again... the thrill of drifting seperately from our usual shell for a while is tempting and very rewarding, but the risks of losing touch with ourselves forever are too great... especially when the dark-side is such an attraction...
... and vowed never to huff petrol again... there isn't a RISK of losing consciousness and tripping out... it is a CERTAINTY... so i never touched petrol again...

...i tell a lie there... the memory of the existential near-miss that was the catalyst of my vow of abstention soon dimmed... .. once my head had cleared of fumes, and the burn marks on my chin had cleared up...
so a few weeks later, me and a friend took a canister up into my bedroom and embarked on a voyage into another state of being.... sure enough.. after ten minutes, a was unconscious and spilling flammable fuel all over my bed.... luckily, as i was passing out, i fell forward, off my bed... and the cigarette in my mouth ignited a small patch of petrol on the rug... which was swiftly put out by my alarmed friend, who shook me awake in a panic.... we had to carry my petrol soaked mattress and BOTH vowed never to inhale the fumes of flammable materials again....
and the lack of a mattress, hole in the carpet, and scar on my chin, all served as reminders to keep my vow....
